The Sufjan Stevens xmas EPs are probably the only christmas albums I'd willingly listen to (Maybe Bright Eyes too)- I have them posted in mp3 in full as my first free album on Mocking Music. Any one know of other Christmas music that's actually not painful?

Here's the tracklisting:

6 - Holy, Holy, etc.
7 - Amazing Grace

Vol. II Hark! Songs for Christmas

02 Put the Lights on the Tree
03 Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing
04 I Saw Three Ships
05 Only at Christmas Time
06 Once in David's Royal City
07 Hark! the Herald Angels Sing!
08 What Child Is This Anyway?
09 Bring a Torch, Jeanette, Isabella

Vol. III Ding! Dong! Songs for Christmas

Look for the Maybe This Christmas Tree album... I think it's even better than the Sufjan Christmas albums (which are good, as well). I mean, I really can't stand 99.999% of Christmas music and every single song on the Maybe This Christmas Tree album is decent/listenable. It features songs by Death Cab for Cutie, Pedro the Lion, Ivy, The Raveonettes, and others. Anyways, I would highly recommend it.

There's a mix floating around online called A Very Indie Xmas by Jon Manning definately worth checking out. There's also Merry Christmas from Yo La Tengo, and some Christmas stuff from Belle & Sebastien Peel Christmas Party

The Sufjan Christmas stuff is suprisingly great, isn't it? I have only heard two Bright Eyes Christmas songs but I found them somewhat dull and lacking. Those indie Christmas compilations sound interesting, as does the Yo La Tengo Christmas album.

I'd forgotten about Maybe This Christmas Tree - We sold it last year (not this). I remember feeling like I had a lisp when recomending it to someone. Mind you, I've never actually listened to it, but it had a lot of great bands.
