Aye, I'd say that's a reasonable description :) I can certainly understand why people don't like extreme metal (the "screaming and loud guitars" kind) even though I do enjoy a lot of it myself. It isn't very accessable and unless you like it instantly, it's a rather difficult taste to aquire. It just saddens me that a lot of people think that's all metal is, when there's a lot of beautiful stuff there too! I can't blame you if you don't like the sound though, hell there's a lot of music I don't like. I'm just saying, it ain't all "I'M ANGRY, TURN IT UP AND FEEL MY FURY!" like the stereotype says XD

Hello :) I've come to your shoutbox because I don't like to take the Beatles shoutbox too off topic, hope you don't mind! Anyway, I think you have a rather unfair view of metal :( what was the stuff you heard? (Beware, there's a lot of falsely labelled metal out there. For example, bands like Slipknot are not metal, they're just shit.) Screaming is actually pretty uncommon in metal, I think you might be confusing it with growls or (awful) deathcore pig squeals. The very reason I love metal is because I find it the epitome of expression. There is so much variety. And while a lot of it is about sadness and anger, an equal amount is also about things like love, honour and joy. There is so much melodic, sweet and gentle music in there as well, and it never gets outside recognition. I can't blame you if you don't like the sound, but if you think its all screaming and loud guitars then I don't think you've really given it a chance!

In response to your shout on the Beatles page about John and Paul's vocals: in the later years, I've always felt that John's voice got higher and was noticeably different to Paul's. I think John sangs more with his accent. Otherwise I don't quite know how to describe them. Just listen to songs by both and find you're own distinctions. Listen to I'll Cry Instead (John) and Another Girl (Paul) for example.

Om mig

I like everything that is actual music (no hip-hop) and is sufficiently complex (no plain four chords songs). This implies my musical taste leans towards art music ("classical music") and older songs.

There is no meaning in music, except for the intrinsic meanings of the sounds themselves. Although individuals may attach personal meaning to music (it evokes memories or emotions), or songwriters may attach lyrics to music, this is not part of the music itself and must be disregarded when evaluating music. The complexity of music is not completely subjective, and therefore reasoned judgements can be made about the superiority of one piece or artist above another. Note that this has almost nothing to do with how much someone likes a piece or what it means to them personally.
