Wow. I've been impressed with Kisses since I first heard their records and saw them play at Cameo Gallery, and they did not disappoint. The show at Mercury Lounge was easily the best show I've been to this year. The band brings a really good energy and can get a crowd moving very enthusiastically very quickly. Their stage set is very clean and visually pleasing, totally in line with the aesthetic of their music. They even have an impressively classic vinyl sleeve and a deliciously simple t-shirt design. This band should really be more famous than they are, and it looks like they're definitely going to get there, possibly very very soon.

Oh, and not to forget about the opener, Rush Midnight, who delivered an awesomely sincere '80s-'90s-throwback funk groove and whose singer/bassist has an impressive faux-hawk. They gained an immediate new fan in me, and the rest of the crowd seemed to dig it too. Their debut full-length should be out early next year, so definitely look for it!
