Now answer the questions according to the numbers:
- What was the first song you ever heard by 6?
The first song I was consciously aware of hearing must have been Gold Digger. I absolutely despised it at the time, probably due to my incredibly limited music taste as a [x]-year old.
- What is your favorite album of 2?
I always snap to Illinois as my answer to this, although lately I've been listening back to Seven Swans and there's something incredibly personal and emotionally resonating and touching about it that I think Illinois with all its grandiose scope failed to master.
- What is your favorite lyric that 5 has sung?
"So drunk in the August sun, and you're the kind of girl I like, because you're empty, and I'm empty, and you can never quarantine a past." always gets me every time.
-How many times have you seen 4 live?
Three. Love the stage theatrics. Once at a festival then once in Manchester and once in London. They played The Past Is A Grotesque Animal then too.
-What is your favorite song by 7?
Golden from Goblin. Although Goblin wasn't that great as a whole, the concept of it culminating in what is the most atmospheric, scariest and probably best song of the album proves that there is reason for the OF hype, although they are not perhaps appreciated in the same way by all their fans.
-What is a good memory you have involving the music of 10?
Playing FIFA on PS2 whilst listening to 'Stories From The City...' Pretty lame I know, but that album makes me feel somewhat nostalgic still, maybe for a time when things were different/easier. I don't know.
-Is there a song of 3 that makes you sad?
Hmm. 'Outro' from The Dead Flag Blues (F#A#∞) is happy and sad in equal measures. Perhaps the live version a little bit sadder. I guess happy/sad doesn't really come into it, more just sheer emotion.
-What is your favorite lyric that 2 has sung?
I have spent the last ten minutes scouring through my Sufjan collection trying to find a 'definitive' lyric and I must say, it's rather hard to do. Everything in the context of the songs is just so perfect, I really am struggling to pluck a line or two out of the air. But, maybe: "I've never known a man who loved me."
-What is your favorite song by 9?
In Media Res, or the Coda to that album. Either way, magnificent. I hope they continue along that path.
-How did you get in to 3?
I can't remember for what reasons, but I downloaded the 'Slow Riot For New Zerø Kanada' EP around Christmas one year. The first time I played it I knew it was love ~8 minutes in when Moya climaxes. I have many memories of cold winter walks and unloading guitar amps and speakers to that song and its brooding introduction.
-What was the first song you heard by 1?
Hardcore UFO's. I was like 'oh, this is lo-fi.' It took me a while to realise GBV genius, I think.
-What is your favorite song by 4?
The Past Is A Grotesque Animal is obviously the standard answer here, but excluding that then maybe Plastis Wafer or A Sentence of Sorts in Kongsvinger or An Eluardian Instance.
-How many time have you seen 9 live?
Twice. Neither of them at their own show, though. They were quite good.
-What is a good memory you have involving 6?
Predrinking listening to MBDTF
-Is there a song of 8 that makes you sad?
A few. But 'On A Good Day' really puts a lump in my throat.
-What is your favorite album of 5?
Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain would probably be one of my favourite records ever if it wasn't for Hit The Plane Down.
-What is your favorite lyric that 3 has sung?
They haven't 'sung' any lyrics. But the monologue in The Dead Flag Blues is fabulous. And pretty much every sample they use is wonderful.
-What is your favorite song of 1?
Game of Pricks probably.
-What is your favorite song of 10?
-How many times have you seen 8 live?
Twice. I could have seen her again but I decided to form an acapella band instead.
-What is your favorite album of 1?
-What is a great memory you have considering 9?
Train journeys. A lot of train journeys.
-What was the first song you heard by 8?
This Side of the Blue on an advert.
-What is your favorite cover by 1?
Let's go for another artist covering them - Owen Pallett's Game of Pricks maybe?
