Albums September & October

My last.fm was offline for about 2 months as I had no internet connection.
I scrobbled the tracks later when I got my connection back but I don’t think they will be added to my overall artists.
So I thought I would list a few of the albums I have been listening to over that period, some old and some new.

Memento:
Booka Shade's first full length provides proof that they had potential from the start. Tracks Like On & On and Vertigo are a great use of atmospheric minimal electronica. There is a lack of constancy on the album though and it falls down in its latter stages.

Movements:
After their collaborations with label mates M.A.N.D.Y, booka shade have become noticed by allot more people and this albums is a definite step up to meet that attention. Booka Shade have created a far more cohesive album with Movements and also created more of an individual style that adds to their atmospheric minimal sound, this together makes this album work well, not just in your bedroom, but in a live setting as well.

Untilted:
A 2005 release that has grown on me over the last 12 months tempting me to delve into Autechre’s large back catalogue rather than just the few albums later albums that I originally owned. I always come back to this album though as is a great example of how individual an album can be in the overcrowded world of electronica.

EP7 & LP5:
Just a few of Autechre’s large back catalogue I have been exploring recently.

Systems And Drafts:
Skoud has produced a nice piece of electronica with some glitch influences from the impressive motivesounds label, defiantly worth checking out.

Insider:
For me, less instant than their first album, Amplifier have been experimenting with their space rock sound. Songs such as Procedures and Gustav's Arrival have references to artists such as Biffy Clyro and Muse where as are Strange Seas Of Thought and Map Of An Imaginary Place are truly Amplifier. This an album that isn’t following anyone else, and also shows to the newcomer how good Amplifier really are.

Isis + Aereogramme - In The Fishtank 14:
I had been looking forward to this EP for about 12 months ever since it was announced on the Isis website, with two of my favourite bands working together was always going to be something special. Although not as heavy as expected this EP doesn’t disappoint using Isis atmospherics along with Craig B's strong emotional voice to create some of best music produced by both artists. I am a big fan of the in the fishtank series and concept (http://www.konkurrent.nl/labels/fishtank.html) and this is the strongest release in the series so far and also probably one of the best releases this year.

Geogaddi:
Classic BOC, my favourite full length of theirs as it is slightly darker than other Boards Of Canada albums.

Body Riddle:
Chris Clark/Clark gets more confident with ever release and this effort shows him being more abstract with his music. An album that has a more disjointed sound than previous releases showing he is not willing to stay in one place with his music and is all the better for it. A classic warp album.

In The Absence Of Truth:
Soon following there collaboration with Aereogramme, this is Isis’s 4th full length album. They seeming have followed the example set by that release and produced and altogether lighter album than any previous releases. The album takes a while to get into as my first impressions weren’t good but if you give it a chance there is a lot more to the album than just what’s on the surface. Maybe not the best Isis release and not their best this year, but Isis still do things better than all the pretenders that are around.

Insomniac Doze
This release is a step up for Envy, further progressing away for there metalcore/hardcore roots and experimenting with a more atmospheric sound as heard on their later releases.
Insomniac Doze brings together all the promise of there earlier musical endeavours to produce a stunning album which is heavy, aggressive, atmospheric and introspective in all the right places.

Liberation
An interesting album of indie and electronic beats scattered with political quotes that make you think and is very poignant in today’s modern climate.

Sweet Drunk Everyone
Cats And Cats And Cats are always experimenting and show with this EP how to produce some truly individual music. Sweet Drunk Everyone is a good piece of math/indie/punk with extra strings thrown into the mix, if you want to hear something different try sweat drunk everyone.

OK Cowboy
After seeing Vitalic live I got myself a copy of this album and although a interesting mix of electonica, its doesn’t match up to there energetic and absorbing live show.
