I have seen all kinds of Christians claiming that the theory of evolution is a blasphemy; from conservative Orthodox monks to non-denominational Evangelicals. To my opinion, it is not and it should not be considered thus. I've alerady explained that Genesis leaves pretty much space for speculation and does not contradicting any scientific theory (see this specific entry), so now I am going to ask the rest Christians why should the theory of evolution be considered a blasphemy.

First off, some Christians tend to view natural selection as a proof against God's perfection. But, Genesis doesn't state anything about perfection, it merely says that everything was just very good. After all, natural selection only demonstrates how wise God is. I cannot expand here, try searching for natural selection yourself.

Then we got the monkey part (which -in fact- is ape, not monkey). Why is this an insult to humans? We are made in the image of God, but that's not a literal phrase! It means that we all have a free spirit like God and we can all love like He does, that's all. It has to do with out souls, not with out faces. Maybe the australopithecus didn't have a soul made in the image of God, but -as he evolved- he got one as a human. At what point this happend? I cannot know.

Seriously, why should the theory of evolution be considred a blasphemy? Maybe one of my great-great-great-ancestors was an ape, but I don't care! That ape was sure a very smart and talented animal, fearfully and wonderfully made by my Lord's hands. And now, at least, I have the privillege to call myself a human made in the image of God. Is this is really such a big problem?
