Umphrey's McGee is one of the best live bands I have ever seen. In my mind their live performance takes the music to places even Phish never went. I am a huge Phish fan but Umphrey's has the ability to rock, HARD. Their live catalog is large including some very bizarre cover songs. Here are 10 songs to introduce you to Umphrey's McGee from their Studio Albums.
1. Hurt Bird Bath (Powerhouse Live)
2. Divisions (Another Live Powerhouse)
3. Nothing Too Fancy
4. Plunger
5. Women Wine and Song (the closest thing to Umphrey's pop music)
6. In the Kitchen (Fantastic Live)
7. JaJunk pt. 1 and pt. 2
8. Roulette
9. Nemo
10. Intentions Clear
The "Common" Studio albums (there are more underground ones)
1. Local Band Does O.K.
2. Anchor Drops
3. Safety in Numbers
Remember - Umphrey's, like Phish, is best served LIVE, get a hold of a live taping of Umphrey's for their best sounding music. With live recordings you get "Jimmy Stewarts," which are exploratory jams as well as jammed out versions of their songs. My last thought is… GO SEE THEM LIVE!
