I saw "I Claudius" years and years ago in the US. We had a Black Wednesday at work--they let several of top brass go. Sadly, their assistants were laid off as well. I have to admit that those expunged were fairly worthless in the long run--mostly charged expensive lunches with no results (so I was told by a mate in the accounting office). Nonetheless, it cast a rather dour cloud around the building. I wish I lived exciting weekends like yours.... lol

LOL. I feel very strong esoteric allusions in your writing, which, in my opinion, is a good thing. I do think "Crash" was not the greatest film, but interesting nonetheless. Having met Paul Haggis and hearing the genesis of the script, it's lucky it was made at all. :How was your weekend?

You're right: he doesn't. Little Otik was the first Svankmajer film I saw, and it remains my favourite. It's sensational.

"Strange tales of circumstance and superstition, how people interpret things and how they behave" sounds like Paul Haggis' script for "Crash." I think I happen to be the only living person who was no that impressed with "Citizen Kane." It was a very good film, but sometimes I think some films become famous for being famous. I was taken to task by a faculty member in graduate school when I said that. lol

Apologies, but we all sign confidentiality agreements about our productions. What were your scripts about?

Svankmajer's Alice is one of my favourite films, and I recently bought it on Blu-Ray (although I've yet to watch it because I don't even own a Blu-Ray player). It'll be great to see it in such high quality. Hah, no it's not Bowie in my avatar -- it's me!

ah somehow missed your last shout - the Badu track is magnificent! She destroys worlds in that.. I like it almost as much as the original, in fact, because it's so different. I also find myself getting "NASA on Acid" stuck in my head pretty often... but for now I'm just loving The Terror in its proper quality!

Oh thanks! Sorry, I just saw your message. I was surprised Cradle of Filth were from Ipswich. From my Ipswich experiences, I didn't think it was particularly brutal. But yeah! I'm glad you like my maps. Let's be BROS.

Thanks for the add. The Cheshire cat is by John Tenniel, from the first edition of Alice; the other drawings are from the first edition of Punch magazine. I've never actually listened to Emeralds, but I saw them live at an ATP one time.

The FA Cup would be nice, although if we don't win it I'll be able to block out the entire memory of this season quite easily. Definitely agree Chelsea is the preferred opposition. I'll try to watch it live. I like the Look Around You clip. That reminds me, I should watch the health episode high one day. You know the one with the guy who was a pile of rocks?

I do read for a living but it is critical reading and rarely enjoyment. I direct the script acquisition and development units in London, New York and Los Angeles for a film company. We read submissions from agents and other sources and make recommendations. Much of what we read is total dreck. Then if the film is accepted and the budget approved, we work with the "makers" of the film to develop the shooting script. I've been working 2 years for them and a film that I've worked on has yet made it to the theaters. I feel like Sisyphus. LOL

I had only listened to Adz maybe once, when it was new - hadn't been into a Sufjan phase for a long time so it wasn't the right moment I suppose. It's actually quite good. I was reminded to, because at a wedding last friday I found myself sitting at a table with his sister, Djoharia! She was lamenting that the groom hadn't chosen any of "her brother's music" to play at the reception, despite knowing he was a big fan - so I asked who he was and she said Sufjan Stevens! I was like, wow, I sat next to you at his show like 7 or 8 years ago! Fun coincidence. We talked a while and when I got home decided to dig up his albums... anyway I've got The Terror for you, check your inbox

"When money's tight and is hard to get. And your horse has also ran,. When all you have is a heap of debt. A pint of plain is your only man...." My great uncle used to quote that all the time when I was young. I think I read "At Swim - Two Birds" when I was younger but don't remember much about it. I should give O'Brien another try based on what you say. I also keep telling myself I should give Brendan Behan another go. But all I do all day is read for my job, so it puts a damper on reading for enjoyment.

Yes, it's very apropos. Have you ever been to Dublin on Bloomsday (June 16th)? I'm one of those wonks who has actually done the Ulysses walk, even stopping at Sweney's to buy lemon soap. lol
