My new Muxtape

A few months back, for a thread on ninjavideo.net's forums, I created a muxtape located here - www.red157.muxtape.com
It contained some of my favourite stuff, including old blues (Leadbelly)and punk (The Stooges)as well as some later stuff. Well I've decided to change it as I've partook in a new forum muxtape thingy. This time it's over at Ultimate-Guitar.com, in the modern rock section. So modern rock? I decided instead to focus on bands connected to the palm desert scene, whilst trying my hardest not to focus it too much on (Only a couple of bands in the muxtape can be labelled that, on reflection). So here's my new muxtape playlist…

1) Kyuss - 50 Million Year Trip (Downside Up) Included for arguably inventing .

2) Mad Season - Long Gone Day Added as this specific track has multiple members of the Screaming Trees, who I didn't actually include as a band.

3) The Gun Club - Carry Home Erm… included because Mark Lanegan covered it? (Actual reason - leftover from previous muxtape incarnation, didn't have the heart to remove it)

4) Desert Sessions - Making a Cross The word desert not enough of a clue?

5) Eagles of Death Metal - Already Died Loads of desert players have graced this band and it was simply a choice of which song. English Girl and Cherry Cola were my first choices, but this track suited the tape more.

6) Mondo Generator - Four Corners Easily their best track (LANEGAN!). Was tough between this or the acoustic version on Demolition Day by Nick Oliveri.

7) Queens of the Stone Age - The Bronze A problem with muxtape is the fact you can't upload non-MP3's, which effectively removes the majority of my QOTSA songs from the equation. But then again, the Bronze sounds like a desert sunrise and fits perfectly.

8) Mark Lanegan - Josephine The fact this didn't make Bubblegum is bizarre.

9) earthlings? - Gentle Grace One of the tracks left over from the old muxtape. It's too good not to be on here.

10) Soulsavers - Revival Granted Lanegan is this song's only connection to the desert, but I love it too much to just boot if off.

11) Eleven - Yes, Alright Nice and upbeat from a band compiled of the three most underrated musicians of the 90's.

12) Masters of Reality - Ballad of Jody Frosty One of my favourite tracks of all time. It's two awesome songs in one, and the best thing Chris Goss has done (And he's done a lot of awesome things).

My muxtape will be UG's Modern Rock radio station for the week starting August 17th. And I've just realised I'll have probably changed the whole playlist by then.
