    Thanks KConn. Last is a little off by focusing mainly on one's last 6 pages of recommendations, but the tag clouds from DontDrinkAndRoot are representative. I don't really like Ellen Allien more than Bowie or the Buzzcocks, but she has done more recent work.

    The Raincoats are indeed great. The Mekons I've never quite got started with, but I've been meaning to try them. But John Cale is pretty high up on my list, since I love his work with the Velvets and with Nico. The tracks I have heard from 1919 are wonderful. I wish I could find more of these on vinyl now. For awhile I had a golden age of hunting great vinyl records on the cheap when noone cared about LPs anymore, and then the hipsters descended and I can't find anything but reissues. Which are sort of cheating, in my view.

    Husker Du's "warehouse" equated to Kiss Alive II? Ouch. I mean, Zen Arcade is my favorite too, but "Warehouse" is a fine example of power pop if you're not expecting anything from the Husker Du name. I'm just saying... and I'm just a jerk who argues with strangers on the internet over pointlessness. :) I just felt I had to defend "Warehouse" because it was the first album of theirs I heard as a hardcore kid, and I liked it enough to dig deeper. Soft spot in my heart and all that. Just ignore this if you want.
