I was going to buy Sagas as soon as it was available. I knew the compositions would be awe-inspiring and René assured me in an email that the album would have a better dynamic range than the myspace samples (which were awful).

So today I downloaded the album, and I have to say the compositions don't disappoint. In fact, they are fantastic. What really pisses me off, the mastering is fucking awful. I really mean that, it's not average, it's not bad, it's fucking awful. One of the worst I have ever heard in my life. All the dynamics have been juiced out of the music, making it obnoxiously loud and one dimensional.

Turis Fratyr mastering was similar (i.e. awful) but it sounded less abrasive than Sagas, and I gave them a break since it was their first album, and everyone makes mistakes. However I can't understand this insistence to mutilate great music…

My only hope is that the leaked version of the album has been loudened, but I doubt it's the case.
