Om mig

"When I hear wack rhymes I get fed up
Rap is like a setup, a lot of games
A lot of suckers with colorful names
I'm so-and-so, I'm this, I'm that
But they're all just whick, whick, WACK"

from the lyrics of My Philosophy by Boogie Down Productions
"We took pride in intellect and skill.
Now you gotta have some sex appeal
to get a record deal."

from the lyrics of Soul Merchants by K-Rino
Hip Hop is a CulturePop rap/hip pop is measured by
how popular you are, chart, fan
base, success and image. True
talent, intellect and respect have
gone right out of the window.

True Hip Hop, be it old school,
underground, polical, golden-age,
real etc., pisses on popularity;
stays real and uses no gimmicks.

Interesting WORD! on the Truth about Hip Hop

Imaginary convo back in the day
First person: "Hey! have you heard this new thing called hip hop culture, which includes MC'ing, graffiti, DJ'ing and Breaking?"
Money Grabbing Music Mogule: "....Hmm yeah, sounds like talentless *garbage to me.. I mean come on, where's the singing and proper use of instruments?"
First person: "Yeah.. I suppose your right!"

* * * * * * * * * * *
...some while later
First person: "Yo!! this hip hop culture is starting to gain momentum and becoming popular now!"
Money Grabbing Music Mogule: "Ah...yeah, we could make a killing (profit) out of this; all I need is to find some talentless dumb-ass who'd look good dressed as a wack rapper... shouting out inane babble and complete *garbage (bollocks) to my cheesy pop factory produced beats!"

Hip Hop is not dead, although yes it is as far as mainstream is concerned. Unfortunately it has become like pop dance e.g. commercialized corporate Crap-pop Crunk and has lost it's true meaning. I listen to a lot of underground hip hop and political hip hop. True hip hop was never meant for self gratification neither for profit. Large corporate music companies and profit mongering mogules have become greedy for a quick buck and have duped the youth of today with catchy cheesy vomit producing poppy tunes and beats that are not created by the artists you hear on MTV etc. Not all rap is hip hop neither does all hip hop have to have rap. As far as I know hip hop is not a genre as such but rather a way of life (to coin a phrase used "I Am Hip Hop")

I don't really have favourites as I have respect for all those who are truly keeping the name of real hip hop alive.

Some artists I can call to mind who are truly hip hop (without looking in my music library)
Jean Grae
Mos Def
KRS-One
despite his comment saying that Lil Wayne was the best "Fapper" in an interview.
K-Rino
Edgar Allen Floe*
A Tribe Called Quest
Talib Kweli
Pete Rock
Wu-Tang Clan
The Roots
Nas
Common
Gang Starr
Big L
Eyedea
Immortal Technique
2Pac (Tupac)
Blue Scholars
J Dilla
Praverb the Wyse*
Madlib
Blackalicious
The Gift of Gab
Gunshot
dope uk crew
...and many more.
Jay-Z was in my other list, but after consideration yeah his earlier flows where good, but he did not quite make it into the above list.
Please note that the list is just some examples of what I consider to be good pioneers or torch bearers of good hip hop and not necessarily my top whatever number it is; I have 1587+ (and counting) albums in hip hop alone and it would take me fuck knows how long to list absolutely every dope artist.

New promising dope hip hop

Why Did I Sleep So Long
Gramatik just started listening to this amazing beat-maker 23/10/11 and I am hooked.
I try to give time for new underground/conscious/jazz and political hip hop when I can, so look in and grab some gems.

artists I do NOT consider to be indicative of true hip hop, but rather aptly named pop-rap (which imo is not true rap)
Soulja Boy
Lil Jon
P-Diddy
Lil Wayne
Ja Rule
Nelly
50 Cent
Gucci Mane
Young Buck
Drake
Weezy (another name for Lil' Wayne)
Wale
Young Jeezy
Kanye West

and other money or cash orientated artists who think that hip hop is about hoes, cash and bling.

Some thoughts on what I believe to be true hip hop especially when rapping (or Rhyming, poetry, spitting, flows)

1. Does it have meaning?
2. Are the words about real life, struggles, need for improvement, fight against injustices?
3. Is it challenging?
4. Skills in word usage and flow
5. Does it actually have a message, truth or story
6. and most important...Is it DOPE?

What hip hop is NOT:
raps that have no meaning, drivel about same-o, same-o shit about money, bitches, self praising arrogance, jewelry and complete bollocks

Incorrect auto-correct
Album Title Auto-Correction thread
New albums
"Professional Hobbyist"
Danny Brown XXX (album)
DTMD - Makin Dollars
247 Mixtapes - P.H.I.L. The Overhaul (a definite must get)
