Apparently I'm not very mainstream

So because I had nothing better to do I decided to take part in this latest fad of finding out the 'mainstream percentage' of your music taste. Obviously this only measures what's mainstream on last.fm and not in the 'real world'. I also think the only way to really measure what's mainstream is to set a timeframe, like what was most listened in a particular year or week etc. because obviously other artists have been around a lot longer and thus have generated more listeners than current hit artists for example. Anyways, here goes.

Find the number of listeners for each of your top 10 artists and add them up and divide by 10 to get the average.

Heather Nova - 13,973
Kubb - 2,755
Imogen Heap - 46,678
Remy Zero - 38,385
José González - 29,279
Joshua Radin - 3,163
James Blunt - 63,639
Antony and the Johnsons - 35,419
Damien Rice - 87,648
David Gray - 64,163

= 385,102 / 10 = My mainstream rating: 38,510.2

Divide your rating by the highest possible last.fm mainstream rating (as seen below) to work out the percentage.

My mainstream percentage: 17%.

last.fm's top ten:
Radiohead - 284,162 listeners on Last.fm
The Beatles - 267,601 listeners on Last.fm
Coldplay - 277,641 listeners on Last.fm
Red Hot Chili Peppers - 242,731 listeners on Last.fm
Death Cab for Cutie - 185,383 listeners on Last.fm
Green Day - 244,554 listeners on Last.fm
System of a Down - 203,980 listeners on Last.fm
Gorillaz - 203,615 listeners on Last.fm
Nirvana - 226,300 listeners on Last.fm
Metallica - 196,353 listeners on Last.fm

highest possible mainstream rating: 2332320 / 10 = 233232
