• VV Brown in Brighton

Well if you liked the first album from VV, the second album is completely different - much more moody and downbeat. I have to say not really my cup of tea this. Saw her at ULU after her first album and thought she was excellent. However, the second album is going in a very different direction and I'm afraid she's not taking me with her. Even the couple of songs she did from Travelling Like the Light, she performed in the style of Samson & Delilah. One to forget for me!

Note to Self - Stop going to gigs in London Theatres.

The band were on stage at 8pm apparently - nothing on either the venue's or the band's website. So we arrive at 8.25 to see one song before a break of half an hour for a film of pretentious nonsense and a then 15 min interval. When Noah and co eventually get back on stage it was a pretty good set but spoilt by people not quite knowing whether to sit down or stand up. I've had similar issues at the Royal Albert Hall before (which Phill Jupitus famously once described as "like trying to watch a gig in your gran's sitting room"

Great gig from a band that I'd had recommended to me. Shades of Joy Division and The Slits and the band sounded most like Siouxsie and the Bansheess since........... well, Siouxsie and the Banshees actually. Worth checking out if you like this sort of thing.

Bloody excellent gig by the Noisettes. The encore was something else! Great gig at a great venue!
  • Chew Lips - Hoxton B & G

Very good gig from Chew Lips at the Hoxton B & G. Good mix of new material and stuff from the debut album, Unicorn. Disappointing that the new album won't be out until January. Not sure I can wait that long. This band are very under-rated. Give 'em a listen folks!!!!

Enjoyed Cut Ribbons, Chew Lips and especially Newton Faulkner. The View were a bit disappointing - second time I've seen them live and both times not impressed. Venue was crap - no draught beer or lager from mid-afternoon!!!!!!!
  • Some Words and Music

A rather patchy start to Saint Etienne's tour with Sarah suffering from a bad cough, forgetting some words and coming in too late on one song. Desptite all that the tracks from the new album sounded promising and many of their classic early works were performed with vigour. If you're attending other gigs on the tour, look out for Sarah's feather boa!! Saint Etienne

Well... a competent performance at an awful venue. I must admit I preferred their previous two years performances at the Roundhouse and the Forum. I can't quite work out how much of my disappointment was the venue and how much was the fact that they failed to introduce precious little new material. They are really entertaining to see live but the whole event just lacked atmosphere for me. Hopefully next year they'll revert to somehwere decent and maybe we'll also get a new recorded offering.
