Thursday Night at the Aladdin

This last Thursday after my job interview the wife treated me to a concert in Portland at the Aladdin Theater. We mostly went to see Keaton Simons, who seems to have grown attached to the women folk of our family. He's a genuine nice guy, good lookin' and has more than his share of talent. We had great seats for his set, at first. We were in the front row and saw Keaton fine, but when the next act took the stage, not so much.

This was the second visit to this venue to see the guys. I think it was the fact that it was the best weather we've had in months, a late start to the show (leaving more time for people to 'beer-up') and the fact that The Mission had the heat cranked, but it was a really randy crowds. I'm a little late, but last Saturday night the wife and I went to see the Asylum Street Spankers and the Aladdin Theater in Portland. You'll have to visit the website for a description of the type of music they play. I would fail in giving it an accurate genre assignment. I'll just say eclectic. On the front page of the life section this morning of the local paper was a story of a local music reviewer and his website/service RedCrownReview.com. He made a couple points about the local music scene (that I must admit I am not involved in, I usually trek up to portland to see shows). Point one, the local scene isn't promoted enough. True. And second; Salem has a self-esteem problem. YES it does! I totally agree, on every level. Don't be ashame Salem, chin up. Buck up camper!

Before I forget to talk about it I thought perhaps I should talk about last Friday's concert adventure. We drove up to Portland's Roseland Theater and sat through an awesome, albeit loud, concert. I'm getting up there in age, but I'm not an old codger yet. The volume was just a bit too loud for that small of a venue. I couldn't really hear well again until today.

Fri 21 Sep – Jonathan Coulton
Friday Night: We enjoyed a nice, relaxed and amusing evening at the Mission Theater in Portland listening to Paul & Storm and of course Jonathan Coulton. Everyone had a great evening; there were a lot of Pirate 'Argins' and pop tarts flying. The food was great; a hamburger with pepperoni, yum. We managed to create a couple new JoCo fans. I got a t-shirt that turns out to be too small for me so my son has a new t-shirt.

Fri 15 Jun – Jonatha Brooke, Steve Poltz

Had a great time at the Aladdin Theater in Portland. Steve Poltz was awesome, fun … I feel sorry for his guitar, he was slappin' that thing hard.

Jonatha was amazing as always. Well, this is the first time I had seen her live. It was my wife's third time and she says Jonatha sound awesome.

The wife and I enjoyed a nice concert by Aqualung Monday evening. As is our new concert mode, we run up to the stage like rabid teenagers so we have a chance to look up the artists noses. Actually the room wasn't that full so we weren't crowded, no stage diving, no fainting sweaty fans.

It was a very enjoyable evening, at the Wonder Ballroom. If you ever get a chance to attend an event there, do so. Very nice place. Aqualung
