Lollapalooza 2008 - Day 2

Fri 1 Aug – Lollapalooza 2008

Saturday August 2 - Day 2 at Lollapalooza

Margot & the Nuclear So and So's:
I did not know anything about this band before seeing them but they ended up being pretty good. They put on a pretty good live show. They had a decent stage performance and the music sounded good. After seeing the show, I am definitely going to have to listen to their cd.

The Ting Tings:
I was quite excited for this show after getting their album from a friend and seeing them on Conan a couple nights earlier. The Ting Tings started off with We Walk which is one of my favorite songs from their album. From the very beginning Katie White was moving around and put on a very good stage performance. Not only did White do a good job but Jules De Martino did the best he could being limited to the drum set. The concert was early in the morning so there was not much dancing but I did see some which is what I would expect during this concert. The Ting Tings sounded great live and I am excited to possibly see them again. Overall, this concert was very fun.

Dr. Dog:
I did not know too much about this band before the concert but from what I had heard they seemed pretty good. The concert did not disappoint but it was nothing special. They did not do all that much on stage but they sounded good. I watched about 3/4 of this show but it was a nice band to sit down and relax for a while. Overall this fit perfectly into my schedule and fit my mood perfectly.

Foals:
I had listened to their cd a couple of times and was a little excited to see them in concert. They put on a pretty good show. They did a pretty good job with their stage performance but it was nothing special. They sounded pretty good and I got into the music which helped out some. Overall an above average show.

Booka Shade:
To start off this show was incredible. I had some of the most fun at this concert. They were very good live keeping the audience involved very well. The drummer interacted with the audience very well and got literally everyone in the crowd dancing and they attracted a very large crowd. I was able to get front row and the bass speakers were intense. They also looked like they were having a great time on stage the entire time. Overall this was a spectacular show and I would love to see these guys again at a club or dance hall some time.

Jamie Lidell:
I listened to Jamie's latest cd a couple of times before this show and was excited to see him perform live. Jamie put on a great stage show with his band. He was moving around stage and was very energetic the entire time. At one point his band left the stage and wandered in crowd while Jamie did some cool looping. Jamie sounded great live and put on a very good performance.

Uffie:
I did not get over to the show until 6:30pm but to my luck the show had not started yet. Uffie started the show with Tthhee Ppaarrttyy which was a great choice as she was starting her party. Uffie sounded good for the most part but the best part of her act is her stage performance. She does some of the most seductive poses while on stage which everyone was loving. Uffie looked good and put on a good performance. I was glad I was able to see the entire set and would like to see her at a club some time where she shines the brightest.

Rage Against the Machine:
After seeing them in concert at Alpine Valley the year before, I was ready for some more. I made sure to empty everything I cared for out of my pockets in order to get ready for the moshing that was about to ensue. After that I pushed my way up to the back of the sound stage. I waited patiently as the excitement built up. Then it was time for Rage to start and like last time the started with Testify. Almost immediately I was pushing my way up to the front while screaming along. I was so pumped as I was getting tossed around in the huge mosh pit that had developed. I was able to push my way up to the second rails that were sticking out. From there I was able to see perfectly although I was squished up against the person in front of me. That did not matter though as I was having a great time. A couple of times during the concert Zack stopped the concert because things were getting out of hand and told everyone to take 5 to 10 steps back. Other than these minor problems the concert went along smoothly. Zack was running around on stage and they sounded great. Overall the best concert of the day.

Day 2 Overview:
This was probably my second favorite day overall. Here is the order of my favorite bands for the day:
1. Rage Against the Machine
2. Booka Shade
3. The Ting Tings
4. Uffie
5. Jamie Lidell
6. Foals
7. Dr. Dog
8. Margot & the Nuclear So and So's
