  • Green day: american idiot

    22 feb 2006, 06:17

Yes, as I have been listening to them an awful lot lately, I think it is nessecary to express some feelings about Green Day.

Please note: this is not a journal entry for bashing the band or their image. they are sellouts? not punk? I really don't give a fuck what you might classify as punk, though it's probably some new brand of bullshit underground metal no doubt. (if you're an idiot ;))
    hear me out.

I've been a fan of Green Day for a good decade now, and I have to admit that of all their albums, american idiot is my favourite.

no, most of the songs aren't up to par with such Green day classics as F.O.D., the grouch, hitchin' a ride, brain stew, etc, but they still make for one damn good listen

I do realise this comes a little late, I have had the album for the last two years or so, but recently has really grown on me.

the title track, American Idiot, is quite simply put, a delicious song, catchy, fast paced, and fucking quality. most scenesters may say that this song (and or album) is just a leap for the bandwagon, going mainstream etc. politics? The Ramones, The Clash. both were heavy on this subject, together the two best fucking punk bands the world has ever seen. I'd say Green Day are heading that way.

they have no doubt, though this is probably severly cliche'd by now, matured, Jesus of surburbia is an example of this. packed into 9 minutes, it is a huge musical journey and a great listen. fucking good show.

The next track, Holiday, is extremely catchy and a great song.

Boulevard of dreams I have never really been much of a fan of, maybe I'm just weird...very successful that one

    Are we the's a good starting song...for...

    ST JIMMY!!!!!!!!

my god, I love this song. it is one of their best, down to the roots, kerplunkesque songs. it's so fast paced and punk rock...fucking beauty!!!

    Give me novacaine...meh

    She's a rebel, catchy, I like it.

Extraordinary girl...not really too keen on this one either...I don't thing the softer songs have been as good as they could have been on this album, with maybe the exception of Whatsername...good song nevertheless.

Letterbomb, wahey. very catchy, builds up nicely to the end, nice starting bit, love it.

Wake me up when september ends is a very serious and dreary song, but it is very appealing to the old ears. I do like it.

Homecoming is the second 9 minute masterpiece, much more sombre, but also packed in with some good bits such as nobody likes you and rock and roll girlfriend. top notch.

the last song is whatsername, and is very catchy...a goodun....

despite what many "loyal fans" say, I think that this is Green day's finest work to date. they have settled down, actually put a shit load of effort into this album, and have been recieved some bad feedback, from those who can't seem to accept that they have actually made a respectable record of artistic merit.
nothing they have made before has matched american idiot in such epic proportions.

    "fuck off and die"

  • How my music taste has changed

    15 dec 2005, 06:07

My music taste, since it was 'born' has changed and changed. I just thought I'd lay down a record of this etc eh blah blah.

The first band that ever got me into music, and I fell to what sounded catchy etc. Linkin Park. Though I haven't listened to them for a good year or two, they no doubt played a large role in the development of my music taste.

And so it started, with bands such as Linkin Park, Incubus, Three Doors Down, The Darkness...

I learned of The Ramones, and though this has not changed my taste in music very much, they were definitely a positive step forward

My music taste completely changed, as I started listeing to The Libertines and got into a lot of indie music. I was now becoming more interested in some underground bands and I found some good ones (at the time) such as The Redcoats, Arctic Monkeys and Littl'ans. I also got into some bigger indie bands such as Oasis, Greenday, whom I'd been listening to my whole life, The Killers, The Smiths and MANY more.

I had been listening to this band all my life, and had always liked them, but not taken too much notice of them. But things change, and in no time I had proclaimed that The Rolling Stones were the best band that had ever lived. I began to defy any anti stones comments and bashed Beatles fans, faggots. :p

Then I began to get into older bands and artists, Bob Dylan, Peter Tosh, The Clash etc.

And that is the story of my music taste so far.
