    Sat 15 Oct – The Drums, io echo

    IO ECHO
    they opened for the Drums... for a minute i thought we were at the wrong event- i think io echo is a little to 'witch rock' for me, i thought harry potter was gonna pop out from a spotlight and start shoegazing. A few of their songs were very good and up beat- the crowd did some minimalist dancing (i.e. head bobs w smiles and the like)
    i dont think that their music complimented the Drums.

    The Drums
    They opened with something off of portamento. By the time Best Friend came on (2nd song) the crowd went wild- and it didnt stop. Sold out shows at the casbah are always fun. People were dancing, and what appeared to be a hundred screaming girls in front was actually a 'gay mosh pit'. Gay in a good way =)
    Lead vocalist Jonny was nonstop entertainment with lots of dancing and the crowd ate it up. People were acting real silly like jonny was elvis or something- grabbing him, grabbing his hair, his legs, his... yeah.
    HIGH ENERGY from the Drums- met by HIGH ENERGY from the fans.

    i saw a Bro try to start sh!t as a scuffle broke out and was just as soon settled. One of my good friends got belligerant and threw her wine at Myles the bassist- i dont think she meant it- i think she was having a good time and that was her reaction to the wine =)

    I like Portamento but what really got me were the tracks off of their self titled debut album THE DRUMS. The fans all loved it too- sang along and everything. The only song they didn't play was SkipTown - which fans repeatedly requested- Jonny offered some reasoning or other as to why they weren't playing skip town but i was too busy staring at Jacob (synth/tambourine/percussion) and didn't catch it..

    Great venue. Great show. The Drums: i love you guys

    kind of. Im at home savin money and energy as tomorrow I have alot goin on. 2 houseparties, work and a Mssive Bike parade jamm session at 9 pm. Fantastic magic is playing a house party at the treehouse in Golden Hill.... meanwhile My Last Fm station WONT CHANGE and it has been stuck on the same station for 3 days (goin on day 4)

    to add to the problem- some of the other features arent working for me either. BOO.

    I cancelled some of the shows I was apparantly attending as some were sold out/ cancelled/ or what not. But Also Im tryin to go see Justice / diplo play in San Fransisco. The tour Ends In LA and is already sold out. and has been for awhile. actually it sold out the day it went on sale at some astronomical rate. gross. anyway- the tickets for their show in San Fran in the SOMA are still available. They play on the 27th of this month. Im really really tryin to get there. we will see and Ill keep things updated

    Mon 10 Mar – Crystal Castles, Health, The Muslims, Skull Kontrol DJ Mario O

    I [we] got to the Casbah in the midst of The Muslims Set. Lots of people crowded the floor for their set, and having never seen them live- I have to admit that their performance was good. Catchy- get ya dancin.

    I caught Fantastic Magic in the atari Lounge and they are always Magical. Sundar rocked the Harmonium / murdunga / finger cymbals and some double reeded instrument similar to an oboe. I was hoping to Purchase a t shirt or a Cassette tape of the with choir- but no paraphanalia was available (that I saw)

    Crystal Castles Canceled their performance and were SUPPOSED to play a DJ set instead- I was hoping to dance to the sounds of their Remix of crimewave by HEALTH...
    who BTW worked it out! of the 4 members- 3 got on the Floor tom and beat out some Heavy rythems which define their sound. [the drummer obviously has his own floor tom in his kit but 2 others switched off on a separate drum] I talked to the guitar player (?) and he said that usually they all (4) will get on the drum- thats RAD.

    1st time Ive seen them. Amazing set. If u havent seen them or hear of them- DO check them out- and TURN IT UP

    ALL in ALL, great music, with great company- adds up to what i consider REAL FUN

    There are two shows at the beauty bar in san diego that shouldnt miss. Tokyo police club is playing (presented by gabe vega [happy birthday gabe]) and then the next day chromeo will be here with flosstradamus. that shit is gonna be off the chain as those bands are ill style.

    on another note, i got tattooe4d for 5 hrs straight on friday the 13th. got some sick ink on half my chest, half my back and on half of my arm. gotta check it. next month I have another sitting to take care of the other half. word. im out.
