That hair!

tis 6 nov – Devendra Banhart, Laura Marling

Yesterday my friend Michal decided not to cut his hair after all. Who could think differently after seing Devendra on stage? There is so much of it, its thicker than his skinny torso, but it's all so wonderful as well. Wonderful hairness.

Laura Marling opened the night with lots of impressive songs. The only song I recognized was My Manic & I but I was easy to get in the right mode of the rest of her songs. Kudos to the violin player, and is it really true Laura is just 17? In that case it makes it overallt even more impressive.

Devendra Banhart entered the stage half an hour late but the Brazilian music the played to warm us up took care of waiting pretty well. Most of the songs played were from the new album which I haven't heard yet, but we still got to hear Heard somebody say, I feel like a child, Chinese children and my mums personal favorite Mama Wolf from Cripple Crow.

The beginning of the show was very physchedelic and almost ambient, which was pretty unexpected for someone who hasn't lietened to the new record (I hear it sounds alot like that, far form the old Devendra sound). Nevertheless I really enjoyed it, Devendras musicians are very talented and manage to make psychedelia interesting rather than boring.

In the middle fo the show Devendra left the stage to give space to a girl from the audience playing a song on guitar, she was called something like Lily and the song was a bout winter and snotty noses. I wonder how improvised it was, but it was a nice break and little Lily on stage got a bit cheering on. I would't expect people to throw bottles at her, but in case she'd been crap it could have ended up being a mood ruiner. It wasn't.

Towards the end Devendra and the guys amde the whole show a bit more rocky and dance-friendly, which Devendra also demonstated with a chicken flap on stage.

He was all in all very lovely in his skinny velvet touge suit. He actually looked alot like my favourite Devendra Doll part for the naked man hanging on to him.

The encore numbers were playful and longed for. I'm sure most people walked out of the forum promising not to cut their hair for anther year or two.

Edit: The girl who came up on stage was Lail arad.
