  • "California Demise": Jesus the people from a certain Orange County group are…

    20 feb 2007, 19:32

The Musical world is alot like the food chain. There is always a bigger fish. I dont (seriously) brag about the My Bloody Valentine I have, but now let me toot my own horn here. I have more My Bloody Valentine then you, try 6 EPs more, but im not a complete "asshat" about it. I realize that obscurity these days is some kind of "sigul" worn among whiney teenagers. I used to be that embarrasing i was that kid who would talk about how good "Explanation II: Instrumental Themes And Dream Sequences" is. But i grew up i got something called musical responsibilty. So if you are gonna claim that you are some how underground, alternative, or heaven forbid indie, get off your ass, get some musical responsibilty, and stop talking about how Casmir Pulaski Day somehow makes you indie or cool. Theres a bigger fish, ive learned that there are bigger fish then me, but the "asshats" over at a certain group which will remain nameless are just "little shits in a big shit world" (tl/rx ep, you probably dont have it). So keep your current taste of "Not on MTV yet but will be soon" and shut the fuck up or get some actually obscure music and learn to shut the fuck up anyway.

  • Godspeed You Black Emperor! and the nature of Post-Rock

    5 feb 2007, 01:36

A Silver Mt. Zion is undenialbly one of the greatest post-rock bands of all time. That being said there is also the great Godspeed You Black Emperor! Godspeed You Black Emperor! is epic, long, and cryptic. Godspeed You! Black Emperor's best known song East Hastings made famous by Danny Boyle's 28 Days Later, a superb "horror/drama" movie, although it is alot deeper, hence Godspeed You! Black Emperor's involvement. If you want a really good understanding of Godspeed You! Black Emperor's album F#A#oo, you should see this film. This film is post-the end of the world, with post-rock, fitting. But what Godspeed You! Black Emperor lacks is the concept of a song. Within one track there are many different movements such as "the sad mafioso" withinEast Hastings. A Silver Mt. Zion how ever masters this, as can be seen in some of the more political tracks on Horses in the Sky. While A Silver Mt. Zion tends to be more pointed, it can be argued that Godspeed You! Black Emperor is more of a post-rock band.
