Godspeed You Black Emperor! and the nature of Post-Rock

A Silver Mt. Zion is undenialbly one of the greatest post-rock bands of all time. That being said there is also the great Godspeed You Black Emperor! Godspeed You Black Emperor! is epic, long, and cryptic. Godspeed You! Black Emperor's best known song East Hastings made famous by Danny Boyle's 28 Days Later, a superb "horror/drama" movie, although it is alot deeper, hence Godspeed You! Black Emperor's involvement. If you want a really good understanding of Godspeed You! Black Emperor's album F#A#oo, you should see this film. This film is post-the end of the world, with post-rock, fitting. But what Godspeed You! Black Emperor lacks is the concept of a song. Within one track there are many different movements such as "the sad mafioso" withinEast Hastings. A Silver Mt. Zion how ever masters this, as can be seen in some of the more political tracks on Horses in the Sky. While A Silver Mt. Zion tends to be more pointed, it can be argued that Godspeed You! Black Emperor is more of a post-rock band.
