Fri 20 Jun – Little Dragon, Lawrence Rothman
Wow, two shows in one week!
Okay, my reviews will just be three parts: venue, opening act, and headlining act.
I have been to Terminal 5 multiple times by now. Locating it the first time was confusing because it looked like a garage door and also happened to be in close proximity to a few car dealerships. It is clear that T5 was not built to be a concert venue, and I think that influences the sound at least a little. Port Authority is half an hour away although you may want to sprint, and there is a Chipotle nearby. The bathrooms are clean, and I enjoy both sitting on the balcony and standing in the crowd. The floors are sticky with beer, and it's a concert, so the smell of organic substances is strong. T5 could be better in terms of sound, and I have ordered tuned earplugs in order to prevent further damage to my ears. However, the bands that perform there do tend to align with my music tastes and the tickets are fairly cheap.
I should probably do my research before the concert since I usually don't know the opening act. The opening act for Little Dragon is Lawrence Rothman. He was pretty good, and during his set, he pointed to me and my friend and said "That's fucking rad. I'd like to sit up there" or something to that effect.
Little Dragon was great. The drummer had some interesting neon flower thing on. Yukimi is a good live vocalist. I have no complaints about the setlist, although the woman behind me in line talked about how she didn't like the new album besides maybe Klapp Klapp, so maybe she would have a different opinion. The date collided with Midsummer, which is a major thin in Sweden, so there was a balloon drop that I had to miss because I had to run for the bus. I thought the crowd was pretty high energy.
Also, Port Authority sucks.
