It seems to me that dramatic lyrics are an important part of classical, opera, symphonic/gothic metal, and gothic darkwave. As we all know not only do you need a beautiful sounding song with a bombastic overture and melodic violins and a soprano voice to accompany it but the emotion of what the ballad is trying to portray is also a key element. Today's avant garde artists like Emilie Autumn and Sopor Aeternus and the Ensemble of Shadows use key elements of historical literature and poetry as well as those charming baroque/renaissance harphischords. Music has certainly evolved a long way. In some ways for the better and in some ways for the worst.
