It's very interesting how music mutates from time to time, rhythm to rhythm, place to place. It is like a fluid that flows from Edu Lobo, sinks at Banda Black Rio, and breaks like a wave in Mos Def…
It started at Minas Gerais, in the 70s. Inpired by brazilian northeast sounds, Edu Lobo handmade an irresistible masterpiece that sounded like a railway timed over a tempo called 'baião'. It was called Casa Forte (Strong House, in english).
Afterwards, but not far from the 70s, Banda Black Rio, from Rio de Janeiro, inspired and motivated, released an incredible and dope longplay called Maria Fumaça. There, they remixed the same Casa Forte from Edu Lobo, changing radically what was originally made. Obviously, Banda Black Rio followed a funky line, so it would be weird if a railway and a 'baião' tempo kept sounding. By the way, their setlist has a song called Baião.
And then the wave breaks. Mos Def and his amazing skills finished the process that moulded Casa Forte. Casa Bey is the same Casa Forte that came from Minas Gerais and passed through Rio de Janeiro. With lyrics, it turned in a real hiphop, and became a very agressive tune. None can't stop his GO!
