Last night, a few of us were lucky enough to be invited to a screening of the new sigur rós film 'Heima' which was absolutely amazing.

This is a warning to the Icelandic tourist board... Expect a lot of visitors to Iceland next year as after watching this film I guarantee people will want to go! The film is about the tour of Iceland that sigur rós did after their world tour for the album 'takk'. It follows them as they play at remote venues such as old fishing buildings to their final gig at Reykjavík to 22,000 people (10% of the population).

Here comes the arty farty bit....

The cinematography of the film is amazing, with shots of the band playing these remote places interspersed with the Icelandic landscape in the surrounding area. The film is basically a tour documentary but it comes across as much more. You get more of an idea of how and why the band make the music they do and how down to earth they are compared to all the tight white jeans wearing, crack smoking, fame hungry, 80's rip off merchant bands coming out of the UK and US at the minute.

Basically this is a beautiful movie about the band with an (obviously) amazing soundtrack and if you can make it to a cinema to see it you get to hear it all loud and in surround sound :)

Now all I need is a floor to sleep on when I go to Iceland ;)

Yeah, I suppose this is TEH movie for all the Iceland-freaks out there. Most of my favorites on Flickr were taken in Iceland too :) Have to see the movie - do you know when the official release is? Also, Amiina is on tour: http://www.last.fm/event/329455

The film is premiered on October 24th and is then released on DVD alongside the album 'Hvarf-Heim' on November 5th. Just added myself to the I'm Attending list :)

The Hvarf part features old songs which hadn't been recorded previously, as well as a re-worked version of Von. The Heim part contains acoustic versions of previosly released songs. Someone sums it up nicely here: http://www.a-reminder.org/music/?p=681 The new album (with all-new material) is apparently due out in the first part of 2008, although nothing is concrete yet. Back on topic: I can't wait to see the film, sounds better than what I expected based on what I saw in the trailer. Did the cinema's sound system hold together ok? During the live broadcast of the Reykjavik concert to the NFT the speakers started going wierd with all the bass.

Yeah, it sounded amazing, which is why i recommend you try and see it in the cinema as the sound really is impressive. There is quite a funny story at the end of the film from jónsi about one of their grandparents watching that concert but I won't spoil it for you ;)
