Right so, here we go then, there are only a couple weeks left of 2011 (wtf?) and its time to habitually start chronicling the year (partly because I can’t ignore my dissertation forever) so without further Apu here is my favourite songs that weren’t on my favourite albums, just to get ys in the mood. I should point out that I did still enjoy the majority of these albums, but weren’t amongst my favourites, however these songs are great enough to be worth noting.

It's fairly common for about this time of year for an artist to be cherry-picked and prepared to be unleashed on the unsuspecting public. This year, it is undoubtedly James Blake. But are we ready for this?

Certainly, Blake's credentials are all in place: he's a young, relatively attractive Londoner who studied at Goldsmiths (a.k.a Goldmine for labels and P.R as of late) and he's making the hottest 'sound' of the fresh-faced decade, Dubstep. Whereas Burial courted and even flirted with the mainstream in 2008 (despite his album being nearly a year old by this point) William…

And so the rush to get one's opinion heard first (so as to not copy p4k) begins. Just notes for now.

Glasgow's Inspector Tapehead don't sound a whole lot like many other Glasgow bands right now. They are a three piece who blend folk, country, electronic and even some slight hints at jazz & hip-hop. Though there certainly are folk and electronic acts in Glasgow, its rather seldom that they should ever really cross paths. This their debut has been in the works for 2 years, and it shows both in the quality and craftsmanship of the songwriting and an excellently appropriate production job.

The instant reaction to the synopsis and the sound is likely to be one of apprehension.…

The end of the 90s saw the beginning of a precedent that would largely define its succeeding decade. Whereas the beginning of the decade saw genres like post-punk and rap running its course and finding wide-scale mainstream appeal and saturation (namely, Grunge and Gangster Rap respectively). For all the the talk that the early 90s was a response to the saturation we experienced in the late 80s - and although there is no denying that it gave us exposure to many bands we perhaps would have a much harder to time to come by - it was still a movement…
