Underworld vs. New Order

I maybe the last on this planet to find out, but it just struck me, after my first listen to Second Toughest In The Infants in well over a year, how much Air Towel is a mish-mash of all kinds of New Order sounds. The boppy keyboard, the thin tinny strings at the end, the way Karl sings in this song...

Over the last few months i've become more aware how much Underworld was influenced by New Order, and especially the stuff off Movement and Power Corruption And Lies. But just today, i found out how much.

Am i alone in this? Anyway, it took me 10 years to figure that out, smart huh?

Underworld were originally trying to be a kind of New Order I think. they're first album, Underneath the Radar I think it was called, was just bad 80's cheese that was obviously just trying to emulate the likes of NO and Joy Division. In fact, the album was so bad that I've purged it from my collection. Thank God they reformed with Emerson a few years later and developed Dubnobass...

ah... i've never heard that album, but that doesn't surprise me then. They've found a much clever way of integrating their influences in their music anyway.

You're so lucky, lucky, lucky, lucky.
