Gone - The Butterfly Effect

Fri 25 May – The Butterfly Effect, Numbers Radio, Greenthief

So this isn't exactly a review as it is just a few thoughts from last night at the Palace.

It still hasn't really sunk in that Clint is leaving the band, even last night it was hard to fathom. What has really stuck in my mind is the little anecdote about how he remembers everything about the moment he first time heard Triple J play TBE's debut on the radio.

When he mentioned that story last night to a sold out show (another gig is at the Hifi in June), I instantly thought about the first time I saw TBE live. I distinctly remember seeing them on stage at Festival Hall, supporting System of a Down and hearing this guy say to someone, that you have to hear this band and that Clint's voice was amazing.

And it surely was, and from the moment I saw them, I was hooked. I remember being disappointed having to wait so long to seem them again as I was out of the country when they played the Pyramid Festival later that year.

Clint's voice was the first male vocalist in so long that I'd really, really liked. (Being a Patton fan, raises the bar quite high.) I remember a gig at the Hifi where he just busted out a verse of Roads from Portishead that just blew me away.

Even last night it was a little hard not to feel a bit emotional over the acoustic rendition of Gone and what a perfect way to end the night with Always.

I don't want really want to detract anything. Being in a band is team effort and those guys are what make TBE, but I still can't help but feel that they really haven't received all the accolades, recognition and success that they deserve. I am still introducing TBE to new friends and I love when I mention them that overseas friends reply "Yeah!".

I know many people are sad to see them part ways, but whatever they all do (with TBE continuing and Clint in Thousand Needs in Red), I'm sure it will be great and I wish them all the best of luck.

Thanks for all the great gigs.
