Final Installment of 10 Songs

Okay, that's weeks 9 and 10 for this round, I'm officially done! Apart from choosing the ten of ten (one from each week)… but I won't get into that yet.

July was… weird. Darkish, I guess. Or just totally insane (Super Furries and the Aliens! So fun, but so very very odd!).

Round 2 Week #9: 2 July
This week was either dark and somewhat depressed or completely batshit insane. No prize for getting which is more me. :D But that said, I do like the way these ones fit together, somehow. It's weird how that happens.
Ashes and Diamonds - random recommendation from this month's Q. I didn't bother with the rest of the album, but I might, at some point. They're a wee bit '2 real' in this song, but still decently pretty.
Dogs Were Barking - Gypsy Punks from the Ukraine via New York. Just as insane as you'd imagine, and impossible not to love. I mean, it's a punk song with ACCORDION.
In Your Back - Israeli woman via New York. Kinda what you'd get if you morphed Regina Spektorand Norah Jones. This song in particular got me right from the start - it's a great mix of gorgeous voice and weirdly bitter only not lyrics.
Wolves (Song of the Shepherd's Dog) - I've liked Sam Beam's stuff for ages, but this new album is the first I think I can describe as truly awesome. This song is my favourite off it - for me it's halfway between Beck and Ray LaMontagne while still being definitively Iron & Wine.
Crown of Love - standout track from the first album for me. Dark and brooding and just a little over the top, but I'm growing to love them for it.
Goodnight Rose- another recommendation from this month's Q (so was Keren Ann, come to think of it). Very country singalong, but I do find myself singing along, so… yeah, it works. I don't really have any of his earlier stuff to compare, but this new album seems fairly decent.
300 M.P.H. Torrential Outpour Blues - Wow. Icky Thump is easily their best album ever, as far as I'm concerned. It's everything I want from a White Stripes albums, so even if Meg kinda isn't a great drummer… I don't care. This song jumped out at me right from the start. Something about how the guitars are all there and driving or something, maybe.
The Happy Song- on of their songs featured on an earlier 10 songs, but I had to get the whole album eventually, and… this is the cutest song in the world. Insane cute, but cute, nonetheless. And happy! Gee, what a surprise.
Child Brides - not happy at all. I was reminded of the Auteurs listening to This Is Not America (a compilation of Britpop stuff) around this time, and decided to check out the rest of the album (After Murder Park). The name pretty much explains it. Definitely dark, but in a cool, weird sort of way. This song creeps me out in a way I enjoy immensely.
Banger- final random Q recommendation for the month… sort of rap, but set to this awesome Bluesy riff that just makes me happy. Yes, I'm odd.

Round 2 Week #10: 16 July
Final week! I think I may have rushed this a bit - I'd run out of new stuff to obsess over, so I pulled together some old stuff, some new stuff, and.. just kind of threw it there. Not sure it totally worked out, but I do love some of these songs.
She is Love- Heathen Chemistry is actually probalby my second favourite Oasis album. Which is sad, because it's immensely dumb, and rips off Crowded House, of all things. But never mind. This song is cute, I enjoy it… and… shut up! It's fun!
You Don't Know What Love Is (You Just Do As You're Told) - Loved this song so much from the first time I sat down and listened to the lyrics. Jack White, I know EXACTLY what you mean.
Muscle Museum - this is a great song i've had for years which somehow hadn't got enough love. That's changed now! (Damn you, Aldo… this is your fault).
Can't Let You Down - New Zealand reprazent. Although I'm not sure about HOllie Smith. She has an amazing voice, but the songs aren't always that great (although obviously, I do really like this one). Bit of a Joss Stone, although without the complete lack of credibility issues.
Liberty Belle - on a big SFA kick atm, and this is one of my favourites from Phantom Power. So cute, so weird, so… SFA.
Holes - from Q's Live at Glastonbury CD, one of the only songs I'd not got already that I actually really liked. Despite lines like 'Holes, made by little moles…' … or maybe because of. Shut up.
La Condition Pour Aimer - yay random French people! I haven't got very far translating their songs, but I still like them.
Ansaphone - from the B-sides from Different Class. Still so freaking good. Jarvis is my crazy skinny northern man (distinguished from Alex Turner, who is my crazy skinny nothern boy. Right).
Your Love Gets Sweeter - Long time obsession (dates back to 2000), but it needed more love. So cute, so weird. (I'm making that comment a lot this month, aren't I?)
Flightless Bird, American Mouth - another great song from the new album. Very pretty.
