I wish the Internet looked like Matt Damon, or like lines of light written by an invisible hand in the night sky. I wish it sounded like tinkling bells and xylophones. I would be sad if it sounded like techno, but I’d get used to it. It turns out, though, that it looks like a warehouse of space junk, and it sounds like an industrial-strength air-conditioning system. Beyond the screen, the Internet looks like everything else. It looks like money.

the first thing you got to learn in practical neuropolitics is to stay high all the time. - r.a.w.
“He played the most dreadful music that could possibly be imagined by the most fiendish mind of man. He deafened us with the sheer fabulous ugliness of his music. He made our flesh crawl and bristle with his noise. Mum’s face began to twitch. I kept jerking. A strange smell, as of a rotting corpse, or of a great animal in the throes of death, rose from the music, and occupied the room. It was incredible.”

This is My 2012 atm

Joyce Manor is post-pop-punk. Ew, did I just type that? If you ever listened to blink-182 or Greenday, you should listen to this.
Big Baby Gandhi & Chippy Nonstop have put out the two most interesting rap albums, outside of Lil B. BBG has a bit of Heem, but it's all good. Chippy is just perfect over five tight songs.
I'm sure BBNG have released some shit this year. And it was pretty good, too.
Free music time!
My favourite mc to ever come out of Canada is Shad. He just released a little ep called melancholy and the infinite shadness. For fans of clever wordplay and a chill flow.
Purity Ring's Shrines is kind of like the Silent Shout of 2012. Watch this space.
Muknal, both on the split with The Haunting Presence and on their self-titled, is such a wonderful band. It's apparently death metal, but to me it's some of the very best lo-fi metal I've ever heard.
The split between Adversarial and Antediluvian is probably my favourite death metal of 2012. If you've heard it, you know how heavy it is.
Sharpz called Plague Widow blackened grindcore. Totally apt tag. Very, very good album.
I think I like Huntress the way other people like Iron Maiden or Judas Priest.
AOTY so far: none yet -

There is a dark side to lil b on this album that adore. Lil B is a neo-shamanistic charismatic cult leader. I was listening to it while tripping off acid and I actually felt I was part of a secret cult society led by Lil B.
He rebuilds the world as a place that values the good and pure but at the same time remains human by showing anger and frustration.
I feel like Lil B prays on/saves the most vulnerable people who have been left out of mainstream culture. I'm glad he's pledged himself to the improvement of our culture because I have no doubt if he wanted to he could be convincing people to drink poisoned koolaid which is why some of the anger/sadness Lil B displays here scares me.
It's also one the album's strengths. It's sounds strange but Lil B seems so bad being good. Despite his positive outlook he really is giving the finger to our current culture. To sum it up: Lil B showed me the dark can light and saints can be sinners.

"Love the juxtaposition of this video and the original Pretty Boy video. It's like in one, he's surrounded by girls, but in this one he goes inside himself; it's like a club before/after/inbetween closing time, and B is just having an internal dialogue. I feel this is a very important fragment of the #based catalogue."

just found my blvcklvnd rvdix 66.6 vinyl in my parents' attic the other day as i was helping clean it out. i actually remember getting tight because i thought my mom threw it away years ago and i didn't have the money to go buy another one. i worked so many odd jobs just to get this vinyl, it meant the world to me. now it got me mad nostalgic thinking about how i haven't listened to this masterpiece since george h.w. bush was in office. feels like i'm a teenager all over again. great memories. i can't imagine the 90's rap scene without sgp holding it down

A Walk Through ... The Best of 2011 (So Far!)
13 nov 2011, 06:25
Top Ten Metal of 2011
Trap Them - Darker Handcraft
This album gets better everytime I play it. A lot better.
Wolves in the Throne Room - Celestial Lineage
Kind of the James Blake of the metal scene. Why do I love them? See sentence #1.
Decrepitaph - Profane Doctrines Unburied
This album encapsulates what I love about Death Metal! Every riff is stellar, the progressions give me the tingles, and they wrap it all up in the cryunchiest, nastiest production this side of '96.
Wormrot - Dirge
Really, this is a near tie with Maruta for spot #4. Wormrot edges out the victory, largely thanks to their balls-to-the-wall approach. This is fucking Grind Circa 2011.
Maruta - Forward Into Regression
I've heard this referred to as "thinking-man's grind." It's not, but that's okay. This album has the distinction of being not-quite-as-good as Dirge, but still worthy of a four-syllabele adjective.
Cannibe - Hideous Human Vintage
Somehow, not the best grind of the year. Flat out, the best fucking debut of the year. Message me if you want to hear this insanely awesome album.
Shub Niggurath - A Deadly Call from the Stars
Mexico does it again. This it apparently blackened thrash, and it's some of the best of it's kind. This year, there's been a pronounced technical bent to the albums I like, but Shub Niggurath is just straightforwardly awesome!
Ulcerate - The Destroyers of All
This is that technical bent I mentioned. Really, this album will rank higher at the end of the year.
Pulling Teeth - Funerary
Best hard-postcore album of the year. One of the few bands in the genre to approach Fucked Up.
Cannabis Corpse - Beneath Grow Lights Thou Shalt Rise
CC>CC. That's all I have to say.
Autopsy - Macabre Eternal
I haven't been around long enough (i.e. not since '93) to know why Autopsy's a big deal. More than any other modern album by the fathers of death metal, though, this album slays.
