Björk in Amsterdam 8/7/7

Being from Ghent (Belgium), it was quite a drive to go to the Björk concert in Amsterdam.
Thanks to the sloppy security, we got in without my taping gear getting noticed :) It was a long wait (from 18:00) until the first act started.

Jamie Lidell may be nice for those who like it, but personally I found it sounded crap. So I'm not going to spend more words on that ;)

The waiting was over at around 21:15, when the intro sounds for Björk started to sound through the PA.

Overall, the musicians (except for the Icelandic brass band) failed to impress: the drummer was very active but I hardly ever heard something from him so why bother?

I did quite like to see the reactable in action, but again I could not really hear anything of it.

If it hadn't been for the few hiccups in the music, I would have sworn the music was on tape. (again, except for the brass band!). The music also had little or no soul and sounded much flatter than the CD. I'm comparing this all with the last gig I saw from Björk in Brussels (Cirque Royal) some years ago, where the performances of Matmos really brought something extra.

Thankfully, Björk's marvellous appearence and voice made all up for that, so I stuck with enjoying just that. It was however the first time I heard her miss the lyrics, but she corrected swiftly and I think most people didn't even notice. Gotta love that voice!

So reading back this seems a fairly negative review. Although I enjoyed the concert, I must admit I had expected more from it. I'll take your beatings now in the comments section ;)
