    Как говорит Олег Кашин, «а почитайте свежего меня!». На самом деле не только меня, "50+ главных саундтреков 2012" писали семь человек — текст очень большой. В этом году мы публиковали материал по частям четыре недели (отчасти из-за особо любознательных товарищей, проматывающих текст, чтобы сразу посмотреть победителя), а ещё дико заморочились с крутой вёрсткой. Правда, большие тексты в интернете всё равно никто не читает, поэтому мы все писали из доброй традиции и для поддержания статуса, так сказать.

    В ходе долгих поисков и изнурительного мозгового штурма редакция Game-OST.ru выбрала чуть больше полусотни значимых и интересных игровых саундтреков минувшего года. 2012-й был непростым и, можно сказать первым переходным годом: в ожидании консолей нового поколения крупные издатели стараются придержать важные проекты на будущее. Потребитель же снова выбирает лишь уже известные игровые сериалы, поэтому не удивляйтесь такому количеству сиквелов в нашем рейтинге.

  • Самые ожидаемые игровые саундтреки 2011 года

    В этом году выйдет много игр, много хороших игр, много хороших игр с хорошей музыкой. Batman: Arkham City, Bionic Commando Rearmed 2, inFamous 2, Diablo III, Gears of War 3, Resistance 3, Rage, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, The Witcher 2, Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception – и это только часть огромного списка самых ожидаемых и самых многообещающих проектов.

    Однако с музыкой перечисленных выше игр всё предёльно ясно и предсказуемо. Например, в Diablo III будет традиционно мощный оркестровый саундтрек от целого вороха композиторов из музыкального департамента Blizzard, однако на появление легендарного Мэтта Ульмена рассчитывать не стоит – музыкант давно покинул компанию. Зато в The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim вернётся всем известный Джереми Соул, а в Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 – Саймон Викланд. Джеймс Дули скооперируется с ударником Guns N' Roses Брайаном Мантиа на саундтреке inFamous 2, а другой известный кинокомпозитор, Грег Эдмонсон – с иранской певицей Азам Али на Uncharted 3.

    Game-OST взял на себя задачу составить альтернативный список не просто потенциально важных, а может быть даже эпохальных игровых саундтреков 2011-го года. Не просто таких, которые будут у всех на слуху, а таких, которые явятся законодателями трендов в игровой индустрии. А в конце года мы обязательно проверим, совпадут ли наши ожидания с реальным положением вещей.

  • Interview with Klaus Badelt and Ian Honeyman - creation of MotorStorm: Apocalypse OST

    We have special guests at Game-OST today. Hollywood movie composers Klaus Badelt and Ian Honeyman were able to discuss with us their approach to Motorstorm: Apocalypse soundtrack.

    Klaus Badelt most known by soundtrack for the Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of The Black Pearl. Actually, there are about 60 soundtracks which he wrote and many of them you are surely heard. For example, Equilibrium, Constantine, Ultraviolet and Time Machine. Ian Honeymonn helps Klaus as technical assistant and also writes additional music for their projects. Further, he has solo works as composer for TV.

  • Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood Soundtrack Review

    No more symphonic minimalism, abstract soft keyboards or female operatic vocals – all romance completely dried up. In Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood (the continuation of Assassin's Creed 2) the central figure Ezio Auditore is no longer an emotional young man, experiencing the death of the family. He appears now as the master of the Assassins, and his main mission - revenge. Bloody-grim stories of Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood do no longer need the full of femininity musical matter, atmospheric ambient and flowing melodies, peacefully outspreaded over Florence and Venice of the Renaissance - the place and time of Assassin's Creed 2. Heroes and events of "The Brotherhood" live in ancient Rome and the arenas of combat operations are displayed with a deadly sound: the drums of war - rough and epic. They are not derived from the tools properly, like embody the broken arms, and mostly dreadful male chorals emphasize the power of the Roman Empire.

    Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood – game-afterword, fast twelve-monthly project, built on the developments and technologies of a successful Assassin's Creed 2. Music groundwork of the second part is also used in the "Brotherhood" to the maximum: the bulk of the soundtrack fits on a slightly reworked «Florentine» and «Venetian» theme, which is expanded with more gloomy textures, the alternative violins and guitars, and sometimes removed, or on contrary, added rhythmic pattern. This array of sounds only in the game and passed beyond the official soundtrack, tracklist which is one hour all-new "militarized" music recorded specifically for the game. And this music is problematic: it is monotone and pressure, throughout the album, continuously taping the endless rhythms and, with rare exceptions, not giving rest your ears and brain, though still works as a game soundtrack, and besides the one, only could be written by Jesper Kyd.

  • Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole Original Videogame Soundtrack Review

    Cartoon Legend of the Guardians filmed on the same book of Kathryn Lasky, is primarily known for its legendary director - Zach «This is Sparta!» Snyder. Well, nobody would ever imagine Zach is not only makes animated cartoon for children but does it without brutal scenes, blood and gibs. And no man were detected - Legends tells only about the various spices of owls and its derivatives.

    Perfectionist Snyder has enriched a picture not only a miraculous image, (which is often compared to "Avatar"), but also a magical soundtrack. In return to “staff” Tyler Bates, who worked on previous Zach’s films (Dawn of the Dead, 300, Watchmen and upcoming Sucker Punch), a new face arrived - Australian David Hirshfelder. Not having a rich portfolio, he made every effort to create a memorable musical canvas, under which could show the scale and dramatic war of birds. To underpin the success he used live symphony orchestra.

    As we think, all of that allowed the soundtrack to be one of the most interesting albums in the genre of classical music this year. The more interesting was to see how developers will do with the game, which came out in support of the film.

  • Interview with Panu Aaltio - Apache: Air Assault soundtrack composer

    Not every game receives live symphonic soundtrack. Not every live soundtrack recorded in Seattle by well-known Northwest Sinfonia whose works (World of Warcraft, Dragon Age: Origins, Halo, Gears of War, Medal of Honor) are known to every gamer. And not every helicopter game receives such kind of soundtrack.

  • Interview with Jason Graves - Dead Space 2 soundtrack composer

    Hey Jason, two years have passed since the original Dead Space release, now the second part is on the way to customers. The game takes place on orbital station The Sprawl and, thanks to the Red Marker, Isaac now has a serious mental injury. How did all this affect the music and where did soundtrack evolve?

    Having the game take place in a setting so different gave me a chance to have the score reflect the same ideas as the game. We’re now in a much bigger setting, and I wanted the music to reflect that. The original Dead Space was very claustrophobic, and the music had a very chaotic, out-of-control sound to it. I wanted the music for Dead Space 2 to sound bigger and more focused than the original. So the score makes use of more instruments in the orchestra to convey that larger-than-life feeling.

    Isaac definitely has a more identifiable character arc in the sequel. I used a string quartet, which is the antithesis of the huge, churning orchestra, to portray Isaac’s vulnerability and character arc as he progresses through the game. I was interested in the juxtaposition of the large orchestra with the small string quartet, and use the quartet to also illustrate his mental weakness throughout the game.

  • Clint Mansell writes soundtrack for Mass Effect 3

    Cult progressive film composer Clint Mansell, who’s participate in composing music to all five motion pictures of modern classic Darren Aranofsky (Pi, Requiem for a Dream, The Fountain, The Wrestler and a fresh Black Swan with Natalie Portman), the movie adaptation of video game Doom , the soundtrack to the criminal thriller Smokin 'Aces and the independent science fiction film The Moon, is currently working on Mass Effect 3, one of the most anticipated videogame this year. Composer casually mentioned Mass Effect 3 in an interview published today to the big blog The Quietus.

    ... Mona Mur, a German star of industrial music scene and extravagant singer, composer and sound-designer from Berlin. She is like unexpected and interesting godsend, especially when Jesper Kyd (a composer whose name had become famous due to IO Interactive games) couldn’t take part in this project (too dense schedule? too small budget for soundtrack?) Everything made by Mona for Dog Days is not a music, but industrial-terroristic sound collage, and it perfectly fits to game with hard and dirty atmosphere...
