Early Queen

Queen have been my favourite band ever since I started listening to music, and will continues to remain that way. Although I would certainly never claim that Queen invented anything per se, their approach to music was with an unsurpassed originality. They are the only band I can think of that managed to pull off so many different genres and make it work, all coupled with an amazing amount of precision and musicianship. Right, now that's enough of me singing their praises… ;-)

Yesterday I got hold of a copy of their first two albums, Queen and Queen II on CD, and have been listening to them pretty much non-stop since then. Now, I've heard these albums before and have owned them for years on LP, but since coming to university I've left my Queen LPs at home for fear of anything bad happening to them.

Listening to these albums again has reminded me just how much I like Queen's earlier work, and for me their early days is when they produced some of their finest music. A lot of the people I speak to only know of Queen after they released A Night At The Opera, and even more people only know or like the songs that are featured on Greatest Hits II. To me this it is a great shame that songs such as The Fairy Feller's Master Stroke, The March of the Black Queen and Great King Rat, to name a few, are so under appreciated and in many cases unheard of.

My advice to anyone who has not listened much to Queen's earlier work (and there really isn't any excuse :-p ) is to go out, buy their early albums and listen to them. If you like Queen, then you shouldn't be dissapointed. ;-)
