Hello!
I thought for a long time that i should do a sampler of some of the most intense songs i own. may they be depressing, uplifting, beautiful, sad, melancholic, heavy or anything like that. I noticed that these songs are mostly of the "post-rock"-genre, but there are other things there, too.
I tried to find links whenever a download is possible or even to upload some tunes myself. Enough said,
Here´s the songlist:
1)Ilya - I Want To Know
this is some pretty intense stuff when they let the tension burst. They can build tension like Godspeed You Black Emperor, just in shorter songs. This song here is pure bliss when the wall of sound strikes you.

2)Gregor Samsa - Young & Old
Probably the most beautiful and sad song that was released this year. The intense add of violin creates one of the most intense "post-rock" songs i´ve ever heard. If you like "post-rock", you need to know this. And the good thing:

3)September Malevolence - Late Night Episode
This swedish post-rock band will get well known and builds this song here nicely until it explodes (softly) with a wonderful and melancholic melody played by Tobias on the guitar.
This track WAS downloadable on their website, but the site is offline since a long time now, so no link here.

4)Redjetson - Divorce
These nice guys, 6 people from britain, are playing some post-rocky tune here that is simply beautiful and like the name says it has some depressing touch with it.

5)Lowcloudcover - Loneliness And Alcohol
This track is a dreamy shoegazy listening experience. It is not the way "Lowcloudcover" sounds today as it is one of their first song and so you will probably never have a chance to hear it (unless you send me a message :)) if you did not pull it of mp3.com a long time ago. The song has shimmering guitars, many effects on it, sad vocals and is the ideal song to lie around, 3AM and you´re drunk, trying to croak the words "loneliness and alcohol" with Greg, the singer.

6)Kilborough - Again She Didn´t Answer
No post-rock here. This is a heavy upbeat tune with effect laden guitars and great lyrics about, well… you´ve guessed right, a break-up - something everyone can rely to. It´s heavy stuff and perhaps that´s why its some of the most depressing tunes i know, especially when the second half, with the very intense vocals and the heavy shoegazy "relief"-like part of the song. Kilborough isn´t active today anymore, so i upload the tune and you can get it from my webspace for a limited time:

7)Said Sadly - …and it´s love
This band is also disbanded nowadays, and this song is some melancholy indie song with quiet-loud structure. Another one of the harder songs here. The desperate vocals stand out here, though some people won´t like it because it´s not very well sung. Just check it out:

8)A Beautiful Machine - Crowded Skies
Skye Klein, one of the guys behind the doom/noise/sludge-band Halo has a second band all alone. And he creates beautiful, intense shoegazer / Post-rock music with it.
This song is a slow one, pretty simple but very effective. Delay, reverb, on guitar and vocals, everything a shoegazer wants, you can find here. this band is awesome and has all records for free download. Unfortunately there is no new record. It was anounced 2004, but no news since then. I hope Skye didn´t put this band on a deathbed. here is the track:

9)Crumbly - In The Distance
This is a small piece of music with shoegaze guitars, but has almost an electronic vibe to it. Depressing lyrics, depressing music, ideal for a rainy day. Haven´t heard anything of this band after mp3.com vanished, so here is the mp3:

10)Sigur Ros - untitled #8 (a.k.a. popplagið / the pop song)
There is not much to say about this song. This is the perfect song to die to. Or at least after listening you think a piece of you has died.
