Damn!
That pretty much summarizes the Sonic Havoc 2007 mini-festival. Not a single bad song was played. I think this is the first festival where I have liked *everything*, even the noise-video art in the hallway was good :P
A quick rundown of the bands and my impressions nothing fancy, I'm to lazy and on my way to another concert :)
First out was cyborg attack a band I had never listened to prior to this festival, I grabbed some mp3s before the gig just to see what it was a "sort-of-liked" it. And now after the gig I *love* them, really good start. Unfortunately the crowds had yet to arrive and it was a pretty slow start in that regard. But the bands energy made up for any lack of energy in audience.
Then we had Run Level Zero and my favorite of the night. I used to listen a lot to Run Level Zero a few years back and have always liked their stuff. And they also did a nice concert playing both the old favorites and some new tracks from the new upcoming album (something I really look forward to). And I *HAVE* to get that wicked cool "EBM" (in IBM letters) t-shirt. wicked!
Next out was Supreme Court again a band I had never before heard, and again a positive surprise.
And then we had the biggest discovery of the night Tyske Ludder! I had never heard them before and did not even have any mp3 so I could not give them a rough quick listen before the concert so I was a bit "so-so" thinking if I don't have it it cant be that good, almost thinking of listening from the back over a beer chatting with some friends.
But on a whim I headed into the trenches and finally made fence contact. And boy what a show!
When they managed to set off the fire alarm (no-one knows why really as the fire alarm were turned off) they did a bit of "unplugged material" (some refrains counting-in-German other crowd starters :), as well as some crowd surfing and such. Really nice break from routine. They after maybe 10 minutes they got the show back on and now the crowd was wild!
I really think the body-scene should learn from this. When you go to a metal gig you get a lot of "contact with the audience" which always gets the crowds started. But when you go to a body concert you just get a pre-recorded soundtrack.
And finally we had the star of the night, the band many many had come just to see: Fiendflug! And again: wow! Fiendflug is really good and their drum-based-stomping-music is made for being played live. And amazingly it works really well live even with the "slower sections" still in (I was a bit skeptical at first). Halfway through the show they picked out the singer from cyborg attack (not sure here, I think it was him) and strapped him into the electric chair and hit the switch! (that was about all you entertainment wise). And interestingly enough the encore was a song with actual singing!!! :)
Unfortunately my batteries ran out in the beginning of the concert so not that much photos from Fiendflug :(
Well, as always the photos are here: http://nakednuns.org/gallery/all/sonic-havoc-2007/.
