First attended events logged on Last.fm. I'm sure I was a member before that so maybe older events have been removed..? Whatever. Had one of the best concert days of my life when I attended Sauna Open Air in Tampere. Killer lineup: Blake, the Black League, The Flaming Sideburns, Iggy & The Stooges and Down. The last two being first times seeing two absolute favorite bands. Up until that point, it was one of the best days of my life. It still ranks pretty high up. Also attended the now defunct Avanto festival for the first and only time. Got to see Islaja, Prurient, Tomutonttu and a couple other experimental artist for the first time. Black Dice unfortunately cancelled but I eventually got to see them a few years later.

Glenn Hughes - Music For The Divine
I seem to be putting a lot of favorites on these lists but then again, that's the point. So here we have my favorite Glenn Hughes solo album. I know I'm repeating myself a lot but this is, again, the one that hooked me. Incredibly strong opening trio of songs in "The Valiant Denial", "Steppin' On" and "Monkey Man". Chad Smith plays drums on the album and John Frusciante guests on bonus track "Nights In White Satin". "You Got Soul" is another favorite song and absolutely constitutes going over my five sentence rule.

Jolly Jumpers - Mobile Babylon
Jolly Jumpers had been around since 1980 but with Mobile Babylon their popularity jumped. The album made many best of 2006 lists as far as Finnish music was concerned and with good reason. The addition of former Flaming Sideburns axeman Ari-Matti Jutila seemed to have rejuvenated the band and as a result we got one of their most inspired albums. I have two favorite songs on this album that are above the rest, "Shooting Star" and "Palomino". Jolly Jumpers are well worth checking if you're into Tom Waits, Nick Cave, Neil Young and the like.

Beth Orton - Comfort Of Strangers
Comfort Of Strangers is a bit of a departure from Orton's previous albums. The basics stay the same but the approach is different. Recorded in two weeks with mostly just 3 people involved, the sound of the album is simple, somewhat stripped down yet incredibly warm. No electronics here, just acoustic guitar, bass, drums, piano and some harmonica and accordion for added flavor. Every song is a gem but my favorites include "Worms", "Shadow Of A Doubt", "Safe In Your Arms" (brilliant mood and lyrics) and "Pieces Of Sky".

Primal Scream - Riot City Blues
After some hit and miss records, Primal Scream get back to basics and put out one of the finest pure rock albums of the 00's. When there's a song called "Dolls (Sweet Rock And Roll)" on the album, you should have no doubt what you're in for. Classic Rolling Stones, 21st century action rock, trippy garage sound… It's all here and there's still plenty of variety to go around as well. "Suicide Sally & Johnny Guitar" is a perfect tasting if you're interested.

The Drift is the most difficult to approach Scott Walker album there is and he's gone through a whole spectrum. It still hasn't quite won me over and I almost left it off the list but how could I? This is the heaviest music there is and it's not metal. Atonal noises, overbearing rhythms, cryptic lyrics - all of these combine into something sharp and cold that goes right through you stabbing your very soul. The music is so personal, I can't imagine listening to it with someone else in the room.
