A Sunny Day in Glasgow @ Hemlock Tavern

Thu 11 Mar – A Sunny Day in Glasgow

$8 for some shoegaze fun at a venue within a bar never experienced? What an adventure!

Hemlock Tavern was popping, giving a good sense of hope for a great show. After seeing a sign that read "Sold Out" next to the door for the venue portion of the watering hole dashed those hopes completely.

Brazen and cunning, a moment when the lady protecting the passage was distracted by a drunken question, a covert movement lead to the stage, free of charge. Adrenaline pumping, Jack & Coke running through the veins, the set up was for a good night, so long as the music delivered. It did.

Gold Medalists came off as your regular rock act, though they absolutely vibrated the establishment when different rhythms from percussion and guitar danced with other.

A Sunny Day in Glasgow came on after what was probably 2.5 hours (getting there late garned 1.5 hours of wait time) and it was worth the wait. The live show for this shoegaze band was very dancy, very loud with much ruckus. The short while that it lasted (45 min?) was enthusiastic and live, though the sound needed to relax on the reverb and treble. Some people complained of the short length, though they probably paid full price and didn't take into account the visible high of fatigue in some of the members (stories of driving from Portland filled the in-between-song silence.)

A good thursday night of shoegaze dance debauchery!
