I saw a similar journal just earlier today and thought to myself, since I'm a huge west coast hip-hop head and love it so much, it only makes sense that me as a regular west coast rap listener makes a list. In case you're unsure, here's the link to the journal that's my main inspiration: http://www.last.fm/user/Konkapa/journal/2010/10/31/40kz0n_top_10_west_coast_hip_hop_albums

I think i would put only around 5 of these albums in my top 100:D But it's nice to see you like Death Certificate the most. Such a raw and angry album. My favourite from Ice Cube:)

Top 100 west or hip-hop in general? I wouldn't believe you if you said the former because I doubt there are even 100 alternative west coast albums! But thanks for the comment, and yeah Death Certificate is not only the best west coast album, but hip-hop album in general... IMO

Maybe a bit more than 5 but up to 10 only. My top 30 would be east only i guess but by now i'm still unable to make such a list.

  • Flesh-n-Bone

My top 100 albums of all time has something like 32 west coast albums in it. Most of it is east too but there are also like 20 or so albums from other demographics, meaning about 45 east coast albums in a top 100 which is a lot!

Then 45 is not so bad for a mainly west coast fan:D On the other hand it's natural because the east scene is much bigger. Which east coast album is your favourite?

  • Flesh-n-Bone

Aside from Public Enemy & "Paul's Boutique" (let's be real, neither are representatives of the east, they just happen to be from there), I honestly can't say I have a true favorite because there's so much the east has to offer. But it might be some sort of fight between "Illmatic", "Live and Let Die" and "36 Chambers". "The Low End Theory" and "Liquid Swords" shouldn't be overlooked either!

  • Konkapa

All of them are among my favourites:) But not always in my top 10.

great list! and I totally agree with Death Certificate being the number 1 album, but no Stones Throw records? :O

  • Flesh-n-Bone

I've been meaning to check out some of Madlib's stuff and company but I just never gotten around to it because I always have something else higher up in priority. I guess that explains it. And Death Certificate is like I said the best hip-hop album ever IMO, so putting it #1 on a west coast list is a no-brainer!

the chronic should be number one. no west coast record touches that.

gangsta619: Eazy-E didn't even write his lyrics for starters. Besides your opinions are some of the dumbest I've come across, so it should be disregarded in every way possible. ||||||||||||||||| Hulkpool: It should probably rank above Straight Outta Compton, but "Death Certificate" definitely not. That to me is the greatest hip-hop album ever, east or west.

Nice List, Put Up Some Good Work here. There Are Two Albums You Should Check out man, One Bad-N-Fluenz & 41fivin' btw: I See You Listened To We're In This Together by Low Profile but i didn't saw it in your list. Did you not like it or just forgot about it ?

    3 jan 2011, 22:23
  • Flesh-n-Bone

Obviously forgotten about "We're In This Together". It's been a long time since I listened to it as well, so I should give it another listen. This list is definitely not the 'expert' list it might seem like since I've heard lots of other stuff that I could easily add. I guess 150 would do better, but this one is good as it is, though a change or two might happen if I like an album a lot.
