    Lang naar uitgekeken en uiteindelijk stonden we, jammergenoeg door omstandigheden maar met z'n 2'en, in het metalwalhalla van Nederland. Van de openers 'Astral Doors' hebben we alleen de laatste 2/3 nummers kunnen meepikken, naar mijn mening te weinig om ook maar iets boeiends over te kunnen schrijven. Wat ze speelde was opzicht niet verkeerd, maar het klonk voor mijn smaak allemaal net wat te rocky. Verder leken ze erg veel ideeën weg te halen bij bands als Dio en Deep Purple.

    Na een veels te lange ombouw tijd, al viel er eigenlijk weinig om te bouwen aangezien alles al klaar stond op het podium, was het tijd voor de oude rotten uit ons oosterlijke buurland. Onder de veldslaggeluiden van 'War Of Wrath' betrad het 4-tal het podium om meteen daarna knallend te openen met 'Into The Storm'. De sfeer was meteen goed gezet en links van ons was de eerste pit al een feit. De band speelde lekker en liet vooral hun oudere krakers klinken door 013 en deed maar twee keer hun meest recente album aan. Tijdens de nummers werd er veelvuldigd gebruik gemaakt van enkele beamers die op een doek wat de achterwand van het podium verhulde de nodige fantasy prenten projecteerde. Na een hoop samen met de rest van de zaal meegezongen te hebben kondigde de band alweer aan dat ze toe waren aan het laatste nummer en na 'Imaginations From The Other Side' trokken de heren zich terug naar de kleedkamer.

    Het publiek wist echter wel anders, en ook het uitblijven van de zaalverlichting vertelde genoeg. Er zouden nog twee toegiften komen. De eerste werd onder luid gejuich van het publiek, en natuurlijk mezelf, afgesloten met de topper 'And Then There Was Silence'. Waarop na wederom een korte pauze de laatste nummers volgde uit het epische werk van Blind Guardian. Onder wederom luid gejuich verlieten de heren vervolgens het podium. Nog voordat ze goed en wel waren vertrokken stonden we alweer te "genieten" van een Heineken en na een korte babbel met een collega die toch ook nog was gekomen was het tijd om 013 weer te verlaten.

    Terugkijkend liet Blind Guardian een erg goede indruk achter. Jammergenoeg was Hansi niet overal even goed bij stem en hij liep dan ook regelmatig even naar de zijkant om een drankje toegereikt te krijgen. En waar dit bij de meeste metalbands bier/vodka/etc. is, kwam er voor Hansi een of ander goedje uit een koffiekan. Het zal de leeftijd zijn zullen we maar zeggen. Geluid en presentatie was verder meer dan uitstekend en dus ga ik deze band zeker met een bezoekje vereren op Wacken 2007.
