Sick of The Studio '07 - Wembley Stadium

Sun 8 Jul – Metallica Sick of the Studio '07

Quite possibly the greatest day of my life. Started off at 8:50 when Me & Johnny made our way to the train station. The train journey down was a nice calm journey invloving each others wisdom on the wonders of modern football and the premier league. This also included a Midland Mainline newsletter of how good Sheffield was. The four most interesting facts about Sheffield are that:

1. It's the greenest city in the UK
2. It has a shopping centre with 257 shops
3. Something about a statue
4. Can't remember but they failed to mention any of the football teams once. Shame that their shopping centres are better than their football teams.

Anyway upon arriving in London we found the first off licence we could and got ourselves 6 beers whilest they were only 99p for before Metallica started. I also got myself a lighter for the song 'Nothing Else Matters'.

After getting wrong directions from the rudest black man in London we set off on the tube towards Wembley. We had no idea where we were going but we ended up just following a huge group of people with Metallica t-shirts on.

When we got to Wembley we finished off the beers and had a walk around the stadium to see how big our que was. When we got there the que was empty so we decided to go get some lunch from a food cart. This cart had the biggest 1/4 pounders I had ever seen and some quite tasty chips aswell. We had another two beers at this point then decided to start queing after a few races up and down the Wembley steps.

When we got to our empty que we found out that it was empty because our que was redirected to another entrance of the stadium. The que was still long when we got there but we were still quite well off for where we were. Then we met our first new friend of the day. Got started when this rude black secuirty guard nudged us out the way to try and get past. This started up jokes about imigration, visas, floating doors and obviously Guam. After a while he went for a piss in a cup and held it up to say 'Anyone fancy a Pint?' And then I grabbed the cup and threw it over the edge and apprently it landed right on top of someone.

Once the que had started moving and we were inside we managed to get a good spot about two people behind the barrier. Not the front barrier but just outside the golden circle. We stood there for a long time with some other new friends we made making jokes and waiting for all the bands to start. We also noticed the worst security guard ever who had 'Jill' tatooed on his neck, 'Boxing' on his right arm and 'Sex' on his left arm. Naturally we took the piss.

After a while the support acts came on. Mastodon were good but you couldn't make out much because they were echoing too much in an empty stadium. Plus the bass guitar was at 11 whilst the rest of the band were probably stuck on 10. Although every now and then some guard would stand up on the barier and block our view which led me to shout 'Get The Fuck Down You Gormless Twat'.

Setlist

Iron Tusk
March of the Fire Ants
Capillarian Crest
Circle of Cysquatch
Crystal Skull
The Wolf Is Loose

6/10

Next up were Machine Head and they blew away all the other support acts with a fantastic set which was well received to the chants of 'Machine Fucking Head'. Unfortunately they did not get enough time to play 'Old' or 'Aesthetics of Hate' which I thought was definitely included.

Setlist

Clenching The Fists of Dissent
Imperium
Take My Scars
Halo
Davidian

Next on ws HiM whcih all us us around me were clearly 'thrilled' to see and we were all 'fighting' to get a good place tosee Ville Valo and HiM. Truly the worst band I have ever seen live. Even tried to give them a chance but you couldn't hear Ville Valo singing. All of us around started chanting 'Fuck off Home' when they were walking out. We were waiting for the song to finish to start booing them again but they were clever and decided to let the songs slide into each other. We decided to leave after this and find Ben & Chris. Thank the lord their set was cut short by 10 minutes. Machinehead should have taken their place.

Setlist

I don't know and i don't honestly care. I know that they at least played the intro to 'Wings of a Butterfly' and they didn't do 'Killing Loneliness'. And apparently something called 'Soul on Fire'.

3/10 - 3 Given for at least showing up and trying to get the crowd going but honestly they shouldn't have been there.

We met up with Ben & Chris and found out that they met Metallica earlier and Chris had high fived him. They also met Scott Ian from Anthrax too. Anyway we got another beer and waited for Metallica to start.

Everyone was cheerign for Metallica. The biggest cheer when 'The Ecstacy of Gold' started and they jumped into 'Creeping Death'. They thundered through the rest of their set and even played 'No Leaf Clover' for the first time ever. When 'One' started explosions were set off on the stage and they wer so loud that my dad could hear them and he was half a mile away inside his car thinking someone was blowing up the stadium. At that point I tried to get on Johnny's shoulder for a better look but it didn't work. Instead some stranger offered to put me on his shoulders and let me watch from up there and fuck me the view was amazing. The problem was i was sitting down and couldn't get my camera out but no live song I ever see will beat singing slong to 'One by Metallica. At the end their set they did 'Seek & Destroy' as they do and another stranger and Ben helped me up for crowdsurfing. I didn't last very long and ended up falling on some bald guy who wasn't happy. After their last song they took to the stage and announced they would be back next year with a new tour and a new album.

The greatest concert I have ever seen and the greatest day of my life so far. I'm definftely seeing them again next time they visit as Lars Ulrich said 'Will you Come On Tour With Us'. And everyone cheered. Great Day.
