I always know when a gig has been good if during it I think to myself "why would anyone want to make music that wasn't exactly like this?" This is usually accompanied by a huge grin and several beers, as it was this past Thursday when I saw Polysics play Stealth in Nottingham.
It was only a small club gig, but that didn't stop them putting 100% of their energy in to it. The whole band was on top form (including the drummer, although I couldn't actually see him from where I was standing), especially frontman Hiro, a man for who clearly doesn’t know the meaning of the word ‘restrained’. Or whatever the Japanese translation is.
New album Now Is The Time! got a good airing – opener Coelakanth Is Android and Baby BIAS being the stand-outs – as well as classics like Kaja Kaja Goo. The venue was tiny, but that didn’t stop the crowd going mental, getting crazier with each song.
If they’re touring near you, get yourself down there and jump about like an idiot. It’s like being on an adrenaline drip, only a lot cheaper. Also, they have pom-poms.
