Thu 8 Oct – White Hills, Woven Hand, Kohoutek
I missed the openers unfortunately. But. Wovenhand....were amazing. It was a powerful, face melting, spirit enveloping, mind blowing, juggernaut of a performance.
David Eugene Edwards gave a possessed performance. It was like watching someone in the throws of enlightenment. Pascal Humbert was slamming his bass like it was on fire. It rocked. It was a mesmerizing show. Ordy Garrison was pounding his heart out on drums. all three were in what seemed to be some sort of weird, synchronized trance state...one with each other and the music. It was not like a normal live show. The power was palpable. If I had to explain it to someone, I would say it was Swans meets a preacher.
And they closed with Heart and Sould cover by Joy Division. That made my year. It was an amazing rendition that did Ian Curtis proud. I would venture to say no other band could cover Joy Divison except for Wovenhand.
Anyone else covering Joy Division would pale in comparison. My only "complaint" is that they didn't play Blue Pail Fever.
