You might prefer Velocifero, Ladytron's last studio release pre-Gravity; it had Ghosts and I think it was representative of a slightly harder, less pretty finger-wiggling dreampop sound (been a while since I heard it, though, as it died with my last hard drive; if you listen and it turns out to be some misremembered polkafest, sorry about that). It also has what might be my favourite song of theirs, 'Predict the Day', which is the sound of Ladytron GOING TO WAR. There's also a "best of" between the two which would probably be the most obvious place to (re)start with them (I had all the songs so I haven't heard it myself; again, if it turns out to be a load of polka mixes, sorry about that), but Sugar, one of their best singles, was left off, so sod that. Do you know Destroy Everything You Touch and Seventeen, at least? Those are probably their biggest songs, both £20 Prize nominees, and the latter has a great rocked-up Soulwax mix and was recently rapped over by Azealia Banks. Amazing.

I love Gravity the Seducer, but can't imagine it'd be hugely accessible to a non-fan; it's Ladytron at their most twinkly and dreamy and not really very catchy (I suppose it has an appeal similar to The Sound of Arrows, but with better production/vocals/tunes/everything). It doesn't deter me – I'd struggle to hum you White Elephant held at gunpoint but it's still one of my favourite singles of the year and I can't listen to it without prancing balletically into an onslaught of gold glitterbombs. I suppose that's not for everyone, but Ambulances shouldn't underwhelm; the repeated "AUHHH-UHH"s are immediately memorable and hooky, and the whole production is huge and dramatic and dangerous and quite a bit more sinister than anything else on there. I don't know whether a teaser track bunged on iTunes without any promo counts as a single, but if it does, it's not one of my favourite singles of the year, it IS my favourite single of the year. Its only flaw is that it isn't thrice its length.

I have yet to hear Ghosts. Actually, singles and soundtracks aside, I haven't even made it past With Teeth yet. Nine Inch Nails only properly started to exist in my life within the past year or so, so I have a lot of catching up to do! (I went out between my typing that bit and this bracketed bit trying to find Year Zero, to no avail. Presumably repressed by a corrupt dystopian government.)

Naturally with a soundtrack there aren't really any individual tracks jumping out and screaming "I'M CATCHY! COME BACK!", I've only heard it once, and I didn't have the opportunity to listen to it all in one go (I don't get many uninterrupted three-hour periods alone) (and, er, if you didn't know, it is three hours), but on first impressions I'm pretty sure it's amazing and I'm a lot more eager to go back to it than I was with The Social Network.

Maybe my tweets are SUPPOSED to convey a sense of melancholy when I debate the merits of reality TV shows! But you're probably right. I'll use the Halloween one to be striking. My tweets will strike people. Followers will lay stricken before me. (And you look lovely too, Ms Goldfrapp)

I'm not quite sure, it was in my pictures folder and it looks like something I doodled but I can't imagine what for. Evidently I've now decided it's appropriate for avatars everywhere. And bloody hell, if you consider this the smiley version of my actual picture, how surly must I look? I'm not sure "seriousface scarecrow" is exactly what I was going for.
