RIP Sugar Booga Wooga Minott

This one has hit me especially hard. Sugar Minott not only sang some of the best reggae music of the 1980s, he brought forth the best dancehall & reggae artists of the 1980's and early 90's through his Youthman Promotion sound system and Black Roots label. Such artists as Tenor Saw, Nitty Gritty, Junior Reid, Yami Bolo, Tony Rebel, Garnett Silk, and many more. It has often been argued he sacrificed his own career so others could shine.
Up until recent years, he was still boosting young artists, including his daughter Pashon Minott, as much as his own career. While many reggae artists have been notorious for behind-the-scenes shenanigans, Sugar was well-regarded throughout the reggae world as a Rastaman who truly lived the humble lyrics he sang.
For those unfamilar with much of Sugar's work, I recommend beginning with his "Herbman Hustling" album and going from there. There was also a greatest hits CD released from VP Records in the 1990s which profiled his most popular hits (Nice It Up - The Best Of Sugar Minott).
Rest In Peace Mr Lincoln Minott, your music will live on eternally, from Babylon to Zion.
