Music snobbery.

I've a pretty varied taste in music. Eclectic, you might say. People who know me well do. But i've never shoved it in peoples faces. Quite the opposite, really. I always enquire into someones chosen favourite genre and find something to connect with them in that. But that's not what i'm writing about here. What i wanted to get off my chest was how annoying people who say they like "pretty much everything" when they actually mean "anything that's been played on daytime radio" are.

"What's this racket?", "Well, that's not very melodic", are just a few of the responses when i play anything even slightly left field or challenging. I'm not pushing the envelope here. No , , etc.

It's get worse when bands like coldplay, razorlight or some other generic chart band (who i refuse to tag) get brought up. I won't say "I don't like so & so band as i've been caught out before, tapping my foot and being told the song was by a band i'd said i didn't like. But when a rabid fan of so & so band starts telling me that i don't understand their music if i don't like it or that i need to 'branch and try something new', i literally want to shave their ears off and feed them to a gecko. I won't retaliate with "well, i've sampled nearly 12,000 different artists that the world has to offer an think i'm fairly educated in what i like" as it makes me feel like a twat. But i clearly feel ok venting here..how passive aggressive is that.

Had to get it off my chest.
