Bored. Thus, I'm doing this survey thing again, just to see how little/much I've shifted in the past year or so. However, as I look at my stats, i realize that things have yet to equalize after some music binges early in the year, and that since I listen to most of my rap on my iPod, it's disproportionally underrepresented here. Whatever. If The Beatles album ever get properly remastered, I'll listen to them as much as they deserve to be. Also, the effect of accumulation from when I started as left some bands higher than I think they should…

So…this summer sucked for music. I was at camp in Wisconsin from June onward, which was awesome, but as a result I missed both Bluesfest in Ottawa, and (because I couldn't coordinate days off properly) Lollapalooza in Chicago, thus missing Broken Social Scene and Feist twice, as well as Gnarls Barkley, The Shins, Red Hot Chili Peppers and God-knows-how-many-others.

However, this fall I can hopefully begin to make up for it with OSHEAGA, Montreal's new alternative music festival on Labour Day weekend.

The list currently includes: k-os, Metric, Joseph Arthur, Grace Potter and the Nocturnals…

Since I'm now officially too broke to see any more concerts before next semester (unless I somehow end up at a day or two of one of the festivals in Chicago on a day off this summer), this is who I've seen since I came to Montreal. More for my own purposes of remembering than anything else, really.

So the past week has been insane. Aside from moving in and so on, music has been a major factor. The last night of frosh, SSMU managed to pull k-os for a concert at Le Dome, and despite the fact that my 18th birthday was two days after the show, I got in, and it rocked. On top of performing track from Exit and Joyful Rebellion, he improvised some dope rhymes about McGill, frosh, alcohol and smoking weed off the top of his head. The acoustics weren't amazing, but he was able to overcome them.

Twin Cinema by The New Pornographers is being released on August 23. Much rejoicing ensues.

Late Registration drops August 30. Just as the previous rejoicing is beginning to wind down, it's given an adrenalin shot straight to the heart, a la Pulp Fiction.

When the excitement finally dies down, the backlash can be thoroughly indulged in the mellowness of Death Cab's new Plans which comes out the same day.

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah are playing in Montreal the day after my birthday. Further rejoicing ensues.

Having discovered this fascinating little gizmo known as Audioscrobbler yesterday, I've found myself a new obsession. Hence, I should probably write something about music just to start things off. My tastes in music should be pretty evident from what I listen to, but to make things clear, they tend to fall in the indie spectrum and that of 60s-era folk.
