I should call this my extended personal recommended list.

The sole purpose of this journal entry is to store a handful of artists / albums / tracks which have been recommended to me or that I've stumbled across and would like to review.

These may have been personally recommended to me from friends, neighbors or fellow group members. They also come from similar artists (on a liked artist page), something I heard on my launchcast radio station, etc.

Only at the time of their addition to this list they are not yet streamable on last.fm

This clutters up my recommended lists with "useless" entries, yet I don't want to just purge and lose them.

So until last.fm implements a bookmark or fans list we can maintain in our dashboard, I'll be storing them here.

And if I'm not mistaken (hopefully) little green or gold play buttons will alert me to newly streamable content - woot!

Once I realize an artist listed here is streamable on last.fm, I'll tag them with my *new discovery/renewed discovery* and/or other appropriate tag, perhaps add them to my personal recommendeds and remove them from this list.

OK, this list continues to grow - getting a bit out of control!

I've decided to make a new tag ( not available on last-fm radio yet ) ( ) with which to identify everything you see listed below, for the primary purpose of checking whether or not something has finally become available (streamable) on last.fm radio.

In the course of doing so, I discovered that two artist previously listed here were now streamable. In their honor and for those that follow in their footsteps, I've also created a tag ( now available on last-fm radio ) ( ) for newly streamable content. A prerequisite of course being that the items were previously listed here.

p.s. pardon any compositional errors in the recent edits herein. You can't imagine how frustrating it is to type in this wee box while the last.fm script constantly checks and rechecks everything entered for connections. In fact it has caused my stream to drop a couple of times now. :-(

Ha! That, or I used them to copy-paste all the other entries. Either missed one or had that left over when the list was done? It'll sure be easier for me to know how awesome they are when last.fm gets 'em streamable, as I've not heard nor seen 'em before.

How did you hear about them in the first place?

I don't recall exactly, but I believe it was a recommendation I'd received from one of the groups of which I'm a member. I downed a few tracks last night and will give a listen later today. I did listen to part of Canon and must say I like what I heard there.

thanks for the tip. Shame that the journal gives no indication of an artist nor an album with streamable content. Only individual tracks. :-(

:D 'eylo, you commented in my journal (much love!). Anyways, a few things; I didn't mention that Thievery Corporation song (Facing East) because unfortunately, I hadn't heard it yet! That entire album, actually..:P I heard it, though, and I like it (even if it is faux-Middle Eastern!!). I checked out your post about that Cairo album, and I'm definitely going to check that out. I love that stuff! You have some really great charts, by the way. :D (And groups!)

How can you have great bands like Lúnasa and sucky pop bands from spain like El Canto del Loco?

Heh, good question. The reason is because for the most part, I don't know any of these groups. Never heard them. A small handful, yes, I may have heard one or a few tracks, say on NPR or something and would like to explore them a bit more. But most have been recommendations made from musically inclined groups I belong to here on last.fm, directly from friends and neighbors, and a few that I've seen listed in the Similar Artists window of an artist I already know I like. And that's what this experiment is all about anyway. Discovery. Who knows, if I ever get to actually hear them, I may actually learn that I prefer the music of the sucky pop band. After all, I left my metal phase in large part at least fifteen years ago. ;-)

Heh Adrian, I notice your journal entry just now, after I recently started tagging my non-blue/gold artists as , to watch for the appearance of new arrows! It's working pretty well as a strategy. Many pandora-friendly names been lighting up lately, for instance. What I still need a strategy for, is for the ones that lately seem to be going from longterm 1-to-few-trackers to newly multi-streamables, like Mocean Worker (yay) or Patsy Montana. Any suggestions for a sensible, simple tag to use on those (I don't usually like long tags that need lots of typing or pasting)? The tag is serviceable, but long to type, and also better meant for presently low-listenership artists. Maybe, just ?

slightly streamable, heh! Around the time I started the tags mentioned above, I'd started putting last-fm one track wonders on artist that only sported a single track (quite often the result of a various artist album having been loaded - see also various artists are a pita on lastfm). That soon expanded to a second tag, last-fm two track wonders as I kept running in to so many artists which had more than one, but less than three tracks available. I soon abandoned the whole idea due the fact that its nearly impossible to keep updated. Unless you were to periodically scroll the entire list, opening each artist page to visually check for new tracks...? I had thought perhaps that Discovery Mode in the last-player might help with that, but its function tends to be quite flaky and unpredictable so I gave up. I do agree, it is quite exciting to see content from so many artists showing up. My not available on last-fm radio yet has so much streamable content now that I cannot keep up listening/changing it over to now available on last-fm radio as I listen. Cripes! Those tags in the journal post used to function, now they don't - will have to check in to why that is later...

Yep, I would probably do the scroll and open for the fun of it! It's pretty easy in Firefox.
