Thought some might be interested in the tag I added (Symphonic Psychedelic Rock). Please add more to what you think fits there. The content runs out after like 10 songs. http://www.last.fm/tag/symphonic%20psychedelic%20rock

Such a wide variety of influences in this genre. Pink Floyd, Moody Blues, and Tangerine Dream are my favorites.

Yeah, Acid Mothers Temple has this tag nailed to their very soul. They live, breathe and eat psychedelia. Utterly amazing band/collective.

@MindLiberation: Actually, the Doors take their name from a William Blake poem.

Goa (and other scenes in Punjab) pretty much made psychedelic music long before the beatles and pretty much before most westerns were aware of it it's origins is in the Indian subcontinent modern-day India/Pakistan, in the Punjab (Pakistan) most of it is inspired by Sufi beats, and massive religious parties with incense laced with dope burning, and lots of MDMA and Coke

beatles pretty much made psychedelic, or at least made it popular. everyone knows that they were taking loads of acid in the mid-late 60's, and a lot of their songs were about it. they also used a lot of tape effects that very trippy. I do think that in terms of music it's a subjective term though. someone's idea of a psychedelic experience could be totally different to someone else's and hence someone's idea of psychedelic music could be different to another person's. just look at the top artists, we've got shpongle and pink floyd, two wildly different artists.

@EENIAC feedback and avant-garde song structure doesn't always equal psychedelic. Regardless White/Light is my FAVORITE VU album.

The Doors is very psychedelic. The name comes from the book The Doors of Perception written by the amazing Aldous Huxley. All of these bands are great.

But seriously. The Velvet Underground? A brilliant band for sure with plenty of great defining songs and tons of influence on pop and rock music. For sure. But psychedelic? I always kind of thought of them as the cold hard reality to juxtapose what was coming out in '67 from Floyd, The Beatles, Beach Boys.

Ok what do you guys think is a better psychedelic album: The Doors or Magical Mystery Tour?. Both of them have fantastic songs like The End, I Am The Walrus, Light My fire and Strawberry Fields Forever. Personally I like The Doors just abit better; I mean Mystery tour is fantastic, but for me it all comes down to The End, no song even comes close to it :).

I know right!? "Tomorrow Never Knows" is extremely psychedelic... The opening line "Turn off your mind, relax, and float downstream" is directly taken from The Psychedelic Experience written by Timothy Leary, Ralph Metzner, & Richard Alpert for christs sakes!
