Not a genre. I've even seen Corrupted tagged with this, and beyond the country of origin, they have nothing in common with pretty much all of the artists here.

Seriously... if you think j-rock is a useful tag, then at least don't just tag Visual kei bands with it. As much as I like Vk... not all japanese music is Visual kei and in fact Vk is pretty unpopular and unimportant in Japan.

Could someone recommend me more bands like Plastic Tree, or any other pop-rock/alternative rock band that doesn't need to rely too much on their visual to appeal to the public, and that doesn't use too much growling? I really like Plastic Tree, and I love songs like Freesia from Mucc., Ink from 9goats Black Out, and Oriental Lily from Sel'm. Anything similar to this kind of stuff is welcome. I've been trying to find some new bands, but the visual bands all sound alike and it's not really my thing.

Listen to Akiko Shikata and Hitomi Kuroishi. They make Kalafina's music sound like Britney Spears.

huh. well i do listen to pop even though my library doesn't show it. I just prefer pop thats similar to kalafina

Any other bands I know tends to be post-punk/goth/experimental stuff like YAPOOS, GUERNICA, Boris, Melt-Banana, Boredoms, or G-Schmitt. Other than that, I mostly stay in my pop music comfort zone.

What about OOIOO? I can understand if BUGY CRAXONE doesn't meet your taste, but OOIOO is almost universally-loved and gets legit props outside of weeaboo circles.

Someone should finally kill j-rock fags and their fans. I'm tired of seeing shityy jap photos at pages of my fav rock/metal band (Heart, Acid, Raven, etc.).

yup. i was wrong. there really arent any good bands here

  • Stb1990

l_solution: try Girugamesh, Hyde, VAMPS, Ellegarden, FLOW, SPAYIR, Kelun, ONE OK ROCK. The rest pretty much is either G-rock = gay rock or some key faggotry.

However, i think that bands like Dir En Grey and the GazettE should be tagged under visual kei only. But for L'arc~en~Ciel, they should be tagged under J-rock and J-pop only, since they don't follow the visual kei movement.

  • candycoco27

IMO, i think that J-rock is not a genre. But it's just used to classify the rock music specifically produced by Japanese people. PLUS, this is just a tag, not a genre.

Hey. A couple of years ago I found a j-rock song that I absolutely loved. Then I forgot about it and now i'm desperately searching for it. The title was something like Spiral city or Spiral love or something. And the music video had a dark green and black colour scheme. I can't remember much more but the tune. If anyone can figure out what song it is, i'lld be eternally grateful!!

@Keiyuu I get your point. But it doesn't make it correct, since it's clear how it's defined by arguments that mutually exclude each other, such as it's just Japanese rock, it has a wide variety of genres and blablabla. However, as it was already pointed out, under these j-tags you'll find nothing but the same generic VK/anime related/bubblegum pop. Enough to prove that, while the term may not have been made up by the "western fangirls/boys", that ironically know nothing about Japanese rock scene, all these bollocks about "j-rock" being "so diverse and unique" were.

Japanese says J-pop & J-rock all the time...

    oktober 2012
  • Keiyuu88

Well, I didn't want to say that it's good or clever to use this term, especially not for labeling music. I just wanted to point out that it exists and is even used in Japan, and that it's not made up by some western fangirls.
