No. "your" point is on the end of a pencil, blunt if i may add, My point is in the middle of sniper scope crosshairs, I hit the point within an atomized diameter per 4000 miles, the accuracy of my point was so smoothly executed that I ought to give myself a pat on the back and an Ice Cold Budweiser to celebrate this monumental occassion, i'm even tempted to write down the date and time of when i Conquered the emo tag and buy a frame especially for the paper that I write the date on since nothing else has this much importance to me, and enjoy how my speech made me all powerful and knowing, but I don't want to seem too conceited. I may just settle for a golden trophy, it doesn't have to be big, so long as it is 24 carat gold, I will rest knowing my work here is done and was done better than everyone else, especially you dusk2009, your welcome. Real emo is a useless term derived from angry hipsters, face it that "your" music is not the same anymore, just like all the clowns who say real metal/punk/dubstep, hell let's say real pop like Duran Duran... Mainstream implies popularity therefore the more popular the band , the more listeners , the more familiarisation, i don't care if you don't like how it works, the minority listener is not worth catering to, therefore real (genre) is an arrogant and obsolete use of words , as if youare expecting a new rites of spring to emerge in 2014, go cry some moar and keep Kleenex in business, dumb hipsters

'real emo' is a useful, if pretentious sounding term considering what most people know as "emo" is really just shitty, bastardised pop punk, thanks to the mainstream media not knowing what genres are

    förra veckan
  • spineshank155

There's no such thing as 'real emo' as it's a genre tag. Like any other genre out there they evolve, nothing wrong with sticking with the classics but artists generally want to do something different to the sound.

The only downside is that a lot of bands who were popular in that era (Hawthorne Heights, Aiden, Finch, Four Letter Lie) made their best music AFTER most people stopped giving a shit about them. Can't win them all I guess.

v where were you in 2005? It was glorious. So many impressionable kids giving bands I liked money. It was amazing. I don't even care that most of them jumped ship after a year or two.

"since there's no marketability, money, or "cool" factor in it anymore" - there never was lol, did you mean Pop Music? Simon Cowell is still hiring.

Taking Back Sunday & Jimmy Eat World always sounded like a real 90's emo Band only involved, Jimmy Eat World made A Split Ep when they still made Emo with Mineral for example, but MCR and The Used were a complete different genre.

Pretty much what I'm saying is that the 17 year old kids who are now starting "Real" Emo bands are the same types who would have started shitty From First To Last or Aiden clones back in 2005, or bad Deathcore bands in 2008. That's currently the entry level Scene Kid music of choice. Don't get me wrong, I live and breathe all things Scene. But that doesn't change the fact that the trends of it change with the seasons. Kinda like how so many kids who had cool hair swoops a few years ago have now gotten those stupid Old Guy combovers.

I'd probably view it differently if I was old enough to experience it pre-Tumblr when Real Emo was actually something you did simply for love of music. Nowadays the tables have turned. If you want scene cred and fangirls, you make a basement 90s style Emo band because that's where all the Scene Kids of 4 or 5 years ago are at now. Whereas if you make music like Hawthorne Heights or early MCR, you're doing it because you love the music, since there's no marketability, money, or "cool" factor in it anymore.

The top artists here are just a proof that people have the best knowledge about music. Emo was in the early 21st century circa 2000-2006. thanks for the insight

Let them do their thang. I like both forms of the genre and don't want either to go away. We need the real crowd to hate the fake stuff and vice versa. It keeps a proper balance.

Plus I never understood why it's considered acceptable to be proud of liking real emo or metal, but you get weird looks for proclaiming a love for the fake versions of the genre. Personally I'm really into Real Fake Emo, but can't stand Fake Real Emo or Fake Fake Emo. Some of the Real Real stuff is worth appreciating because it's honest much like the Real Fake stuff. All a matter of perspective really. Some people just have bizarre, way out there ways of looking at it I guess.

    senaste månaden
  • bobo9390

I don't like Real Emo much at all though. I prefer the whiny pop rock type stuff. If you prefer the former that's fine and dandy. But assuming people who like one must not know the other is a ludicrous claim. They aren't even similar musically, or in terms of production styles and songwriting tendencies. It's the same deal as the "real metal" or "real hardcore" argument. It's cool if you appreciate that stuff, but they're not particularly similar to the supposed "fake" stuff. So being shocked or offended when people who like one don't enjoy the other just makes you look naive.

Anybody who thinks My Chemical Romance are emo clearly has never listened to any of their albums. Just showing you ignorance. I've seen them live lots of times and out of the first page of "top emo artists" of the 46 bands on there, i never listen to any of them except MCR. They couldn't be further away from either definitions of emo if they tried, either the original 80s meaning or the modern meaning. MCR have spanned almost every Rock sub-genre out there. It's just what they did, they changed their style with every album. Post-hardcore, Pop-punk, Goth-rock, Alternative, just plain old-fashioned Rock, they've done the lot. But the lazy emo term sticks with them from people who never actually listened to them.
